I said it as well as others the day the law changed was the day College Athletics ended. It's a very sad time for the great fans and a very happy day for the entitled pussies who don the uniforms.

NIL nonsense
Worse thing ever to hit amateur sports. Don't forget to pay the clarinet player and Bertha in the cafeteria.

The camel has officially put his nose under the tent. But I'm sure the new little millionaires will repay the university and their fans for footing the bill so they can display their talents on the world stage at university facilities.

The NCAA either needs to drop pretenses entirely or step in when shite like this happens.

Like I’ve said slapping a NIL label in a suitcase of money doesn’t mean it’s NIL money.

Incorrect, and Texas is a great example. The players at Texas over the last two decades have been very average compared to most top 40 programs and Texas has more money than any school in the country. That money clearly did not help them over the last two decades; but it's about to start helping now that NIL is out in the open.

Like it or hate it, it is changing the landscape of college athletics.

Texas has been consistently in the top 10 the last 2 decades in recruiting, even getting top 5 classes multiple times

Yeah it's going to get absurd. Quickly. I guess it already has considering Ohio State got a QB for 1.4 million dollars. People are saying nothing has changed and everything is now out in the open but do you really believe that players were getting a million dollars before? 200k and a car sure but 1.4 million?

These desperate schools with deep pockets will now be able to offer life changing amounts of money to players and their families who can't afford to turn them down. With no salary cap it's going to get crazy. Instead of the haves and the have nots, it's going to be the have it all, have some, and the have nothings.

Texas’s issue is not talent or the money they spend. Their issue is their own internal politics.

This stuff was happening already. When it was behind the scenes, I suspect that alot of kids and their families got burned by empty promises. I do think it will get out of hand with public bidding. But, you either get with it or you get left behind. It will end up being a super conference that has all of the big boosters then everybody else.

I am a straight up, 100% capitalist. This has nothing to do with capitalism...it has everything to do with ruining college football as we know it. Hell, even the NFL has caps on what can be spent and they only have certain periods where they can trade someone, etc. No caps that I've heard of with NIL and players can up and leave to another team whenever they want through the portal. College football will be diminished and, in turn, so will the NFL by default.

Who are these desperate schools with deep pockets everyone is worried will come out of nowhere? Do people really think Bama or Ohio State going to let them outbid them?

The biggest threats you would think are schools in big markets. For one there aren’t many schools in big markets and also those big markets have pro sports so how many players would be able to compete with pro athletes for those extra advertising dollars.

It’s different I agree with that but I think when all the dust settles from the initial shock we will see the best players, for the most part, will still go to the same schools.

Things change. “It’s going to be the end of what we grew up enjoying about college football” has been said over and over again, about the forward pass, for example. Or helmets with face masks. Or during integration. Or the advent of the BCS. Yet you’re still going to watch it next Fall and the one after that.

There are still only so many scholarship spots per school. These kids were essentially forced into some weird indentured servitude. Any alternative is better then what we had.

This is all the NCAA's and NFL's fault. They could have created a farm league for kids who wanted a check, but didn't want to go to college. They could have compensated the kids better that went to school.

Of course it is. The writing was on the wall once you start handing out money (paying players to play).

My gut feeling: The reason they are paying the O-line 50K is because Texas expects to get Manning

Just the NFL. It is not up to the NCAA what regulations a professional organization puts in place for eligibility into their league.

One issue will be the divisions in the locker room. A small percentage of players will make anything of substance, and now for the first time, all their teammates will know exactly what that figure is.

I understand that the best players have always been paid, but it’s the exact reason you don’t go to work and talk about what you’re paid yearly around folks you know aren’t making as much.

The transfer portal is only going to become crazier

I’m a staunch capitalist so I would never be in favor of restricting someone from making money off their name. Making college football a little more complicated isn’t enough to make me change my values as an ‘Merican
