they were able to get her! i was told last week she was their #1 choice but had issues with the buy out. I guess they threw in more cash and got her.

it's a amazing the irony of the people calling alleva an idiot. at the time of both basketball hires, both appeared, at the time, to be home runs.

personally, I don't see her fleeing to the Evil Empire when the Evil Empress retires. (I saw on another board that the Pat may leave after '12 or '13 by the way)

the Evil Empress has Warlick and DeMoss in-waiting to fight for that job when it comes open.

I think she stays here; think it was a fantastic hire, and I think it shows that the school and department are willing to back the sport more fully, including upping the recruiting budget.

I think we may even get some recruits outside of our "designated" southeast region.

Echoing the thoughts of many---Starkey really must stay. I think we still get Krystal Forthan even with the emminent departure of Mayes.

PLUS***** she can hit the ground running, firming up our 2 2011 signees, our 2012 committment, AND start doing some serious recruiting for 2012 and '13!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a very happy camper

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! (PREDICTION: ELITE 8 IN '12.

As long as you okay with knowing Alleva brokered a deal that cements LSU as a stepping stone school & then patted himself on the back: "This is a great day for LSU and our women's basketball program".

How do you know for certain this is a "stepping stone" to UT? You don't...you are just guessing. Too bad the AD didn't ask you who you think would have been the best hire. What would you have told him?

There's a lot of things I'd like to say about this situation of women's collegiate sports and coaches, but I won't. I guess it's get a coach with certain persuasions or lose.

I think it's funny that some assume she wants the Tennessee job. She may actually want to go to another school and establish her OWN legacy. She knows to follow in the footsteps of Pat would be TREMENDOUS pressure with unrealistic expectations. Here at LSU if she wins the SEC, makes the final four and can even win ONE NCAA championship, she will be put on a pedestal by our fans. Besides, like someone already mentioned, she's not first in line for the UT job. Holly Warlick is definitely in that position. Not so sure about DeMoss though because she flamed out at UK.

As for recruiting, Nikki should be able to hit the ground running. We'll have 5 seniors on next season's team. So that means in her first recruiting class she'll have room to haul in a top 3 nationally ranked class. Not only will LSU be competing for SEC championships, at that point we'll also be competing for NCAA Championships.

excellent hire. She will have an immediate impact. Her connections throughout the nations will be awesome to watch. I hope she keeps Bob Starky.

There are other people who can do Starkey's job just as well. If he makes it through 3 regime changes...color me impressed. I wouldn't mind them starting with a clean slate though.

Starky was the glue for those final 4 teams. When van was brought in, he tried to change the philosophy to score more than play D at first. After that he wanted to improve defensively and well, we didn't have the talent to do both.

I sure hope she is. Pokey won a lot of games and was a great recruiter. As far as her personal life, who gives a shite.

What a coach does in private is their own business but when they are having relations with their players thats crossing the line IMO.

The racism, sexism and utter stupidity in this thread amaze me. You know who you are.
