the first real test comes next week if you get a matchup with St Johns
Year One Pitino vs Year 2 McMahon

Nicholls would probably beat MVS by 20
So this will be a step in competition, but the first real test will be next Thursday vs. Dayton.

I wouldn't overlook Dayton

Actually, it is Dayton. They are picked to win the A-10.
Pitino will have St. Johns playing well. I just think that will be more at the end of the season than the beginning.

I like our ball movement and willingness to share the ball. There seems to be some team chemistry early. Also shooting is way better than last year so far. Would like to see them hit the boards better and anxious to see Baker against better defensive competition.

Last year they only had one consistent shooter, KJ. This year it appears Ward, Stewart, Wright, Baker, even Wilkinson can be a threat from deep each night out

Baker dominated MVSU. But he's very deliberate with his back to the basket and doesn't have a lot of explosiveness. I have my doubts he will be as effective against much better competition. I think, ultimately, his style of play will be very much like KJ's last season.

Weakness so far is the same old, same old. Rebounding and interior defense without fouling. Fountain gives it his all on these two but often gets quick fouls. Not only am I looking to see if Baker can consistently score off the block but if he can play defense and stay out of foul trouble. If Collins can add some in these areas it will be big.

The offensive rebounding was pretty good. Defensively? Not as much. The fouls were also a lot. But there were plenty on both sides. Crews seem to call more fouls early in the season...across all of college basketball...so I'm not terribly concerned after one game.
Defense and rebounding were, IMO, the biggest questions coming into the season. That would have been the case even if Cook were available. We'll just have to see how it progresses.

Dayton is our first big challenge.

Had McMahon commented on whether Corey chest is redshirting or not?

Looking forward to tonight's game. Should be another easy W/tune-up before we head to Charleston next week and play some real competition.

Nichols State grabbed 43 rebounds in their last game, a ten point loss to Tulane. I wouldn’t say this is an easy game.

Corey Chest not dressing out for tonight’s game. He will most likely be redshirting.
I heavily disagree with this decision but it is what it is

I hope this move doesn't come back to bite us and chest leaves the program after this year
We haven’t had a good track record of keeping redshirts in the era of the transfer portal

Even outside of him transferring, I genuinely think he is good enough to get more minutes than Reed or Collins.
He can rebound really well for his size and has a high motor, something this team desperately needs.
MM raves about Jalen being able to handle the ball, which is nice, but that’s just not the skill set we need out of our starting PF imo

McMahon insists on these god awful lineups. Why Jalen Reed should not be starting. Williams and Stewart should not be on the court at the same time

Not a good start so far. LSU cant make a bucket and nicholls is playing hard. Down 11-0 to start

What a disaster, down 11-0 less than 4 minutes in
