Make sure you get the right dish if you want to get all the channels. I think it depends on what type of box you have. I have the newest HD box and got the Slimline dish with 3 LNBs

Just wondering if you already have your spot picked out? The new parking fees are going to cause some problems as it is, but some groups have been out there for years and will get awful pissy if you start busting up on their territory.

Sounds like your almost set, really. Been at this for about 15 years. You'll need a couple of burners besides the grill, propane bottles, a first-aid kit, set of decent cooking tools, a football, cornhole game (washers), plastic forks/spoons, paper towels, gloves for hot stuff, toilet paper for your ladies (trust me, you'll make big points), a large cooler (or two) w/wheels, and a truck big enough to haul everything. Bon Fortune, mon ami.

Your cable box from Cox will have no way of receiving a signal while tailgating.

I'm not sure if you are serious or not, but if you are serious about setting up a dish, you need need a level and a good compass. It can be frustrating if you can't get it level and pointed in the right direction, and these will help. Having said that, if I was back in college again, I would not be worried about generators, satellite dishes and plastic forks. You will have many years after college to figure all that out. I would focus on the ice chest, the food and the company. Get that right and you'll have a good time every single time!

Well, last year my two buddies went out a few weeks before the season and assured me that they knew what they were doing when it came to getting the DirectTV signal. They are certainly more of handymen than me, so I trusted them. Never got a signal the entire season, so this year I am not leaving it in their hands. Will someone please tell me what I need to do to make sure we get a signal. Telling me I need a compass and a tripod is not enough. I need more specifics. We have a tripod, but never got a signal. TIA

I don't have a problem getting all of the channels including the nola local channels. Maybe you don't have the right dish to get all of the satellites you need.

Good advice.

First thing is make sure your pole is perfectly vertical - if that is off then everything else will get screwed up. After that, I follow these instructions for my setup.

With a want to succeed in tailgaiting, you will need to do some research first.
Also, someone suggested to move the generator to the other side of your car. That's a great idea, but if your car isn't close by, take along a spare table or plywood and lay it sideways next to the generator to redirect the noise away from your group.
quote:I'd skip this whole issue the first tailgate. Bring your TV and start with the free HD signal (make sure you've got a decent antenna). Talk to other tailgaters around you with dishes, tell them you're new to tailgating and ask for advice. I wouldn't spend a lot of cash on this for just tailgating (there are only 6 home games this year). Make sure it's something you want and can use year round.
