Sounds plausible.

I'd prefer somebody with head coaching experience, but I'd be ok with it.

I’d be shocked if Woodward hired someone who’s never been a head coach to lead LSU baseball.

Skip wasn’t a head coach, but he was part of a very successful program.
I don’t think being a head coach somewhere is a prerequisite, but they better be an established assistant under a successful head coach.
Brown would fit that.
I would still rather a big name i.e. Corbin, Vitello etc.,

I've never understood the preference for someone with head coaching experience. There are lots of assistants that would make GREAT head coaches if given the opportunity. They are hungry, driven, and want to make a name for themselves.

The last time LSU hired an assistant coach, associate head coach, Pitching Co-Ordinator with no head coaching experience, he went on to win 5 National Championships.

See this has me thinking woody is using the Bianco thing as a way to go after who he really wants. So the fan base will be like anyone but Bianco! And they will be fine with it

I dont give recruiting coordinators the lions share of credit for the classes. Players commit to a program, HC, and maybe an asst coach.

I dont diminsh this guy's credentials but I am not believing players are committing to Vandy on his account

Still makes me wonder if they are throwing out names to keep attention off their primary target.

This is another good way to buy time. Especially if your top target continues to win.

Would be a Homerun (no pun intended) hire. The only hiccup I see is there’s rumors that Woodward would make keeping Cain apart of the hire. This would clash with that… on paper.

Here's why. It's less of a risk, especially if the prospect has won before. And the learning curve is significantly lower.

At a high pressure high exposure job, like LSU, it's preferable to have somebody who is already understands the day-to-day ins and outs of head coaching and recruiting, so he can be better equipped to handle the PR, as opposed to throwing somebody who has never done it before into the wolves.

During Brown’s tenure, 30 Commodore pitchers have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 10 in the first three rounds. Three Vanderbilt hurlers were selected in the five-round 2020 draft.

Brown has helped the Dores to two national championships, three College World Series finals appearances, seven NCAA Tournaments and five NCAA Super Regional appearances. Since 2013, 10 different Vandy pitchers have been named All-America.

Not too shabby.

This guy has brought in some monster recruiting classes, and you can't deny the pitching prospects that Vandy is sending to the bigs.

Now, can he do that without the scholly advantages Vandy has?

He may end up a great coach who knows but this is not the type of hire LSU makes. You grab a proven HC somewhere with the money we're likely offering...and not Bianco because he's not proven to do anything but shite the bed.

If you're talking about hiring a new HC and having him come over here to do what he's doing at Vandy sure but that's probably not happening either. HC would be an underwhelming hire but I'd take it over Bianco.

My issue is how much of their success is his coaching vs being able to get first round arms to campus.

There are several college assistant coaches, and a number of minor league and MLB assistant coaches, that would be light years better than most current head coaches in college baseball.

Not arguing that an assistant couldn’t get the job done, but if you look at Woodward’s history it’s really not his style.
