Because there’s not a suitable venue. That’ll change once this is built.

There isn't a major act scheduled to be in Baton Rouge for all of 2024, unless you consider Rick Springfield and Kenny Wayne Shephard to be major acts.
Probably because the PMAC doesn't host concerts anymore and we don't have an approriate venue at this time.
That's about to change.
Moreover, Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks have played in Tiger Stadium recently as well as Elton John in the River Center.
Again, why would Swift not return to Baton Rouge? What has changed in the last couple of years that would exclude big named acts from coming here?

The Rivercenter, while dated, holds about 11K for concerts and has hosted major acts in the past. This new venue won't be much bigger than that, but would obviously be nicer.
Seems like major acts are only hitting big cities now.

How hard is it to build something like this at the site of the golf course?
I was able to get some info this morning. Big reason why the track facilities aren't moving anymore is because the original budget going into moving them to the golf course was massively lower than what engineers told them it would end up costing. And it would be really simple to build those facilities in comparison to building a full-fledge arena with amenities.
So from what I've gathered: it's not just annoying to work around the golf course, but the actual cost of construction is going to be astronomical regardless of where we build.

Insanely outdated on the inside. No box/premium seating. Concessions are arse. Parking is also an issue.

Bayou Country Superfest was more than just T Swift and well before her already incredibly high popularity.
You're better off getting acts like Cirque du Soleil and similar things. River Center sounds like it's going to be geared more towards conventions.

cajundome has 3-5 big names come through a year
so does Sheveport
I don't think Taylor Swift - the biggest act in the world will come to BR but they'll be able to draw some major names

Taylor Swift played Tiger stadium a decade ago. She's way too big for mid-market cities now. This is not a knock against Baton Rouge.

LSU is to ignorant to use the existing track facility
I mentioned above but the cost to move all of track and the Natatorium is well beyond what anyone is willing to pay, on top of having to build a new arena.

Besides making use of the real estate, why would LSU need a new track stadium or natatorium?
If they are outdated, just remodel them. It seems the field is what is important. No one who goes to a track meet is looking for luxury or amenities. I've been to the track stadium at the University of Texas and it's nothing special. It's like a bigger high school football stadium.

The track stadium does not have the infrastructure to compete with modern stadiums, and the capacity to expand on the infrastructure it has isn't cost effective. The indoor stadium isn't on par with what you'd expect the giant that is LSU Track and Field to have either. They need and deserve to be a destination stadium for Track and Field.
This is one of the sports that facilities impact the talent that you bring in and retain.

The indoor track sucks. It's flat. LSU cannot get anyone worth a lick to come for an indoor meet at the college level. The offices are marginally better than the PMAC offices.
Outdoor track is old but in decent shape. There are current facilities across the country that utilize the space better.
Natatorium is damn ancient. I was talking to a former swimmer earlier today who competed just a few years ago and said it was ancient then. It's got to get torn down.
It helps futureproofing the teams and it will help with recruiting 10000000%. I know that's not on the radar of any school for the most part, but you're doing a service for the entire athletics program if you can move Bernie Moore/Carl Maddox/Natatorium to the golf course and can put up something better for the sports that will pay the bills.
Bernie Moore -> shopping district/something for PMAC events/gameday.
Carl Maddox -> training facility/offices for volleyball/basketball
Natatorium -> get rid of it so the entire area can be revamped into something function for the future of LSU.
That grass lot should absolutely be several parking garages.

River Center seats 8900, new PMAC projected to seat 15,000. For concerts, like the River Center, the capacity would likely increase also. That's a subsantual difference in size.

Maybe, but the Garth Brooks concert was only two years ago.
Trends change, who's to say it will remain the same going forward.

This. It's an instant recruiting tool. We don't need Oregon's $270 million outdoor track, but being able to say "numerous world records have been broken here" at Tyson Randal in AR is pretty powerful.
FWIW, the developer of the current indoor track screwed up. The long jump/triple jump pits are built on top of wooden runways (track on top, wood below) while the architects forgot to build the same thing for pole vault. It's just a rubber runway. Significant difference in performance between both styles of runways.
Also, the fact that Carl Maddox has to be a listed hurricane shelter holds us back from being able to put in a banked track. There are a lot of tracks that come unassembled and can be built/torn down (see the 2024 Indoor USA Championships) but we can't even do that.

What is the French House being used for now?
It's a relic-- like 50's rock and roll. It has served it's purpose, but why is it still there-- it has become an eyesore. Raze it and erect a state-of-the-art arena that will be the pride of Louisiana and the Cajun/Tigers diaspora

You obviously don't understand construction costs (& timelines), plus don't have very good reading comprehension skills.

And depending on whether the projected capacity for the new arena is for sporting events or concerts, the differnce in will be 5-7K. Either way, they'll not be similar in size.

The move was supposed to be a package deal.

When is the last time you've actually been on campus? The French House has been renovated, is used for classrooms, and is currently surrounded by dorms. The lot it sits on is maybe an acre or two. You could barely fit a decent size building there, let alone an athletic facility
