Yeah we need it easier for people from downtown to come to campus….that won’t turn dangerous within the first night

LSU has soooo much potential. This project seems to be in direct conflict with that potential….every bit of it.
Actually, I am tired of Kim moaning about the PMAC. I would hope that people with common sense would step in and stop all the foolishness.

I'm definitely cool with a new arena but 15,000 is unrealistic.
LSU is a 12,000 max basketball school, more like 10K would be perfect.
No way we're ever selling out 15K.
Let build an arena like Auburn...perfect size

You act like anyone who you're scared of can't already just take a CATS bus directly to campus. Or just walk there from the ghetto directly to the north.
But no, you're right, it's better to not build infrastructure that would spur redevelopment of the crime ridden areas. That'll help solve the problem. Who would want to spend money to redevelop an area with infrastructure access. That's never happened in any city on the planet before.
And since no one has ever had issues with traffic getting to and from LSU's campus, it will be good to add even more events there throughout the year while doing nothing to address transportation issues. Good plan. Very forward thinking.

Nicholson multilane expansion for an extended distance would have to accompany the new arena. That should at least help traffic for all campus events including football.

Yeah let’s add a street car that will be used for mugging and rapes of college students trying to use that. Let’s not forget it’ll just be another money sucking pit for the city. Good plan

We’d regularly put 14,500 fans in the PMAC when we were good.

EBR voted on taxes to widen Nicholson to Lee/Brightside when Kip was mayor in 2005. In Dec. of 2018 to provide more funds to get that project done and to widen Nicholson from Lee to the Iberville Parish line.
There has been no one pushing these projects despite the funding.

Baton Rouge needs more cops, better drainage, better streets, better maintenance, but let’s build something new?
We can’t keep people safe and we can’t take care of what we have now.

Agreed that’s why I think a street car would moronic. Would be filled with bums in no time and used a few Saturday’s in the fall? Not worth it all. City wastes enough money

They just redid a major city street and admittedly can’t afford to take care of the landscaping. We see city busses catching fire. The Knock on the River Center is that it’s run down.
Like I said, we can’t take care of what we have now.

Seriously , how much for Tigerland ?
Wouldn't be nice if a large number of alumni got together and bought it and turned it into something that is nice , safe, and family friendly ?
Also , while I am dreaming, how about LSU buying everything north of Roosevelt St. between Nicholson , Highland, and I-10 and build a true Research Park like what was supposed to be at CAMD ?

LSU has plenty of property now, and they admit they can’t maintain it now. They do not need more.
Government is not here to rejuvenate depressed properties. They can provide tax breaks yes, but we are a capitalist country. If there are business opportunities developers would scoop up the property themselves. They don’t need LSU to do it.

Government should be working for the people. No it’s not their direct job to rejuvenate it but it is their job to incentivize growth. If you look at governments that give two shites like Tennessee and Texas, this is exactly what has occurred. Issue massive tax breaks and credits for developers to come scoop up dilapidated buildings to transform their use into beneficial uses to society

Like I said, government can provide tax breaks and provide incentives, but it’s not their job to buy up depressed properties when they don’t need it.
And it certainly isn’t LSU’s job to buy run down blocks if property to enable developers to build close to LSU.
And I do agree that government has a critical role in development, but that starts with public safety, streets, drainage, and necessary infrastructure. Government needs to do a better job of all that.

Seems like we agree on everything except for this.
University’s all over the country to do this. Public Private partnerships have been booming the last decade. It somewhat is LSU’s job if you think long term benefits. Short term view / fixes are why Baton Rouge is in the state it is. The surrounding areas of campus are dump. LSU tying up this property gives the university final say on what can be built next to it which is huge. University growth will cause appreciation to real estate. Nicer real estate retains graduates to potentially stay in the city and continue to give back. Louisiana does not have a lot going for it at the moment. Investing in the campus and surrounding areas can bring jobs, retain alums, and bring in more out of state kids. This all equates further investment in the university from donors and creating multiple revenue streams.
