I would rather see some immediate penalty on the field

I think a penalty on the field is both A) more likely to miss fake injuries and B) more likely to result in game-changing wrong calls. It’s too hard to catch in real time at field level, and we definitely don’t need more video review stoppages.

It is really easier than that. If a player causes stoppage in play due to an injury, they must sit out the remainder of the series. If it is a second stoppage by the same team in the series, that player sits the rest of the 1/2.

All you have to do is hold the snap for 10-15 seconds after first downs. This will remove the incentive for defenses to pretend to be hurt.

until your best player rolls an ankle and can go back in after getting taped.
if just has the wind knocked out of him.

those things legitimately happen and are not reason enough to miss the entire rest of a possession.

you want to stop it FAST?
have that fine come out of the coach’s pocket and go directly into the NIL fund of the opposing school.

but i’d love for there to be someone not affiliated with the conference, TV networks, or any of the schools to be an independent review board to enforce it.

maybe like some retired NFL officials or something.

That faint sound you hear off in the distance is every personal injury lawyer in the south warming up in the bullpen.

So the SEC is gonna rely on non medical personnel to determine fake injuries?

Would have to change the clock rules again and stop the clock on first downs, otherwise the offense would be facing a runoff every time they move the chains.

Other than that, I wouldn’t really have a problem with holding the snap after first downs and allowing defensive substitutions. I don’t really think tempo needs to be a part of the game. It’s not like we have a lack of scoring in CFB nowadays.

Never forget the first time I saw a team do this. I’ll give y’all a hint…it was at Texas several years ago!

They’re going to rely on cameras that show a player looking at the sideline, seeing a signal, and immediately dropping to the ground. Or players clearly being told to go down by teammates. It’s not that hard to identify a lot of these.

I’m not sure how you would expect medical personnel to solve this in the first place. The trainers and doctors work for the team. They aren’t just gonna say “yeah, he was faking.”

^^^I agree. I'd really like to see something done. The problem is that the level of sophistication w/ cheating using a fake injury is very crude at this time since there's basically no punishment. We've all seen videos of a coach or another player being given an obvious "go down like you're injured" (looking at you, Ole Miss!) sign to a player and the player suddenly flops. Although this needs to be policed somehow, once there's a significant punishment attached, the fake will become more sophisticated. For example, a team will send in a 3rd string sub w/ instructions to fake an injury, thereby stopping the game. Or whoever signals in plays (seems like there are 6 guys on the sidelines doing this) will give a special sign to fake an injury, but no one's going to recognize the sign except for the team. It's just REALLY hard to catch and punish a cheater if they're bound and determined to cheat.

Pretty sure Kamala wrote that.

What?

Kiffin would have paid 150k by the 1st game of the year and then been suspended every game since

Sending a random 3rd stringer to take a dive seems like a good way to get caught.

As for the rest of it, I’m honestly okay with that being the result. It’s not that guys are faking injury to stop the clock is such a big deal. It’s how obvious they are about it. If teams want to institute a pre-snap signal that says, “Joey stay on the ground after this play,” then fine.

Good move.

But I was truly hoping before this change, that a team playing against Kiffin would have the entire defense fielded ALL fall down simultaneously to bring attention to it. Sorry but that's my sense of humor!
