CPM will not be fired this year, won't be fired next year, and probably not the following year but I want to see the rants opinion on who you would hire as a new head baseball coach if you were the AD.

A few names I like: one is Brian O'Connor who has done a terrific job at Virginia but I'm not sure if he would leave Virginia after doing what he's done at Virginia.

Todd Whitting from Houston is another one who has done a terrific job at Houston but Houston is his Alma Matter so I'm not sure if he would leave Houston.

Tim Tadlock at Texas Tech is another one who has done a really good job but his Alma Matter is Texas Tech so it would be hard to get him.

Dan McDonnell at Louisville has done a terrific job but he just got a huge contract extension.

Jay Johnson at Arizona has had good success in his short career at Arizona including runner ups to Coastal Carolina and this years team is winning a lot of games.

Those are names I like and I know the rant wants Andy or Dean to be the head coach but they haven't proven themselves to be head coaches at a program like LSU, at least not yet. Once again I don't think CPM will be gone anytime soon but I was just rather curious to see what the rant thinks.

If Paul is here for at least 3 years like you said, why name coaches now? In that time, there can be numerous coaches who become the "hot" names while some your listed guys might not be so hot by that time. This thread is not needed yet.

Props to you for posting something besides "Fire CPM" and then flaming uncontrollably.

Well I'm just saying since the rant thinks CPM should be gone now then who does the rant think would be a better option to replace CPM right now?

What happened to our recruiting? PM has lost this team. Saw signs of this happening two years ago. Time to fly, time to crow, PM must go.

I'm with you. Not saying those names aren't good. Just a little early IMHO. Right now though, I think I'd take anyone on your list

He and Mainieri are BFF. He'd never come here to replace CPM, particularly if CPM got run off.

Not worth worrying about for a few years. But if we did, go after the best and make them say no Shlossnagle, corbin, and sullivan

Need a Bertman family tree coach. Bianco or the like. We have every advantage here and most anybody can recruit talent to LSU, what we need is someone who knows internally the things that were unique to our past success.

I'd pretty much prefer anyone else.

Andy Cannizzaro. He's done a great job at state so far.

to add to that list

mike fox
john savage
kevin o'sullivan (5 omaha appearances since '09, 6-9 record, wayyyyyy more competitive than mainieri)

then we could start looking at coaches at smaller programs. then there might be great coaches in the minors that i'm not even aware of.

The determining factor in "Coach Termination" is an equation of wins x attendance.

When the loses come and the fans stop going to games in mass, (Just like in Football and Basketball) there will be imminent change.

You simply can't have lots of empty seats at one of the preeminent college baseball programs in the country.

TAF and "Powers that Be" will step in and force change when that happens and the time is right.

Hasn't reached that point yet, but if the loses keep coming this season, it could possibly escalate to fan strong enough to stop them from attending.

Everybody is already hyper sensitive and over Football and Basketball. No way they'll accept losing/mediocrity in LSU Baseball........

I get so tired of people using words like average and mediocre to describe a baseball team with 5 straight national seeds. Lost to the national champ last year and won an SEC title the year before that. What world are you people living in? Who in their right mind would want to come coach here if Mainieri was fired.

to sharpen this point, it's really more about season tickets sold. once they are sold, people actually being in seats is gravy. they've already gotten their money. but when the season ticket sales start to diminish and, more importantly, boosters are upset, then change is on the way

how many times does this point need to be refuted? actually winning real life games in omaha is what matters for elite programs. national seeds don't mean squat.

real life where wins on the field are the top priority

you're right. if lsu fired mainieri after this season, there is literally NO ONE who would take the job. the program would have to be shut down.

you don't have access to google.com?

my gosh what is it with this? it's like people irrationally defending mainieri have lost all ability to think critically. this just isn't rocket science.
