I’ve been shite in for saying this, but I don’t think we’ve run the ball well in a traditional sense since Brad Davis was hired. Except for the TDP gave vs Florida. JD covered up a lot of issues.

Yeah and we can fire the field grass cutting crew and let Les eat. Save the school some money.

Les’ running game was not complex or sexy?
We could duplicate it schematically easily.

No it wasn't - our guys were bigger and badder and stronger than the guys on the other side most games, but when they were equal or in the very few times lesser, it was pretty ugly.

Well, that why I said maybe. Could it be worse than currently? He went 1-1 against them.

LSU was like 11-1 in opening games under the guy.

We should hire back Ed Orgeron, Malveto, and Crowton while we're at it.

Maybe just hire him to prepare the team for the first game. After that, he can go to his apartment near campus.
As a package maybe we hire him as a security guard around there so the Linsey situation doesn't happen again

Yes, it can. We got manhandled in multiple games from 2014-16.

Its just for the first game. Then Les goes to his apartment and watches netflix or whatever.

We were ready most years for game 1 despite his crazy arse. Moreso than no times so far with the current staff. Thats all im saying.

That speaks louder than the moralists, naysayers, and lazy boy analysts.

That’s revisionist bullshite. Go back and look at my previous post. After 2007, we weren’t very good in game 1s vs P4 teams more often than not. We were more talented and won most of them, but they were sloppy, ugly games against teams that were mediocre to just plain bad that we should have blown out, especially TCU and Washington.

We aren’t playing teams with losing fricking records in openers anymore. The only equivalent team Les played in his last 5 seasons was Wisconsin and he was lucky to pull one out after a terrible, unprepared first half, and then lost to them the second time.

I mean, it would be nice to just line tf up in the I formation and then pound it for short yardage situations

OL is one position group. I don’t see the correlation

It’s crazy we pay oline coaches so much and they can only specialize in either pass protection or run blocking.

Never both

I mean in any given year a team is going to be better at one or the other but last year was just unusual in how they weren't very good in run blocking. In 2019-2023 we did both pretty darn well. Honestly last year was kind of shocking how we weren't able to consistently run the ball but I expect that to change.

Again, the selective rosy memories here are really something

On the other hand, we watch LSU with a much more critical eye than we do any other team. Who are all these teams that perfectly balanced and can run the ball and pass it around every game, every year? Maybe Bama for a stretch. Georgia for a bit. The game has changed so much with the spread offenses. It starts in Pee Wee now. Then 7 on 7, high school, college, etc…Almost everybody is mostly running out of the shotgun. There’s almost no fullbacks anymore. TEs are smaller and more TE/WR hybrids that spread out wide to create mismatches. RBs are smaller and quicker and multiple ones are used instead of handing the ball to the Leonard Fournettes and Jeremy Hills 30 times a game. (There are exceptions, obviously).

Most OL just aren’t trained to be the road graders they once were. So it’s hard to be good at both. And unless you’re ‘23 Michigan, you have to throw the ball to win today. So teams tend to sacrifice the running game for the passing game.

Still, no excuse for how bad we ran the ball the past couple of years. I’m not giving up on this OL yet, though.
