I’d love to see a metric that indicates that LSU’s 7-point win at 6-5 Texas is better than say, tOSU’s 42-pt home win over 10-1 Cincinnati.

Give Cincinnati Texas's schedule and see if they are still a quality team.

We used to actually go by bullshite like this. Had it continued, LSU has no title in 2003 or 2007, they have a 2011 title, and they don’t control their own national title destiny currently.

No thank you.

We sure as hell better beat A&M for all the pissing and moaning we’re doing over this ranking nonsense.

No we didn't. The whole frickin point of the committee was so we didn't go by that bull shite and we aren't watching a Hawaii Fresno State game at 2:30 in the morning to see if USC is going to jump Oklahoma or not in the computers.

These games against inferior opponents when comparing the top 5 teams shouldn't matter, but for some reason they do this year.

SOR compares top teams against each other, and that’s informative and interesting, but what I said is something that applies to all teams, so SOR can’t possibly prove or disprove anything I say within that frame.

quote:

I observe that Ohio State’s opponents have a better record than LSU’s opponents. Therefore, I conclude that most, but not necessarily all, teams would have a harder time going undefeated vs tOSU’s schedule than vs LSU’s schedule. I’m certain there are countless good arguments in opposition to what I’ve said, but a point citing SOR doesn’t belong in this case.

Which is it?

If you’re as dialed into these metrics as you say you are, you’re being deliberately obtuse. Any metric that defines schedule difficulty from the standpoint of an “average” FBS team is inherently not ideal when comparing the top 4 teams. Western Michigan is an average FBS team. The CFP represents the top 3%.

The difference in win probability against Northwestern State compared to Miami (OH) is negligible for a team like LSU or Ohio State. However, there’s a big difference in win probability between those two games for a team like Western Michigan.

You would be right of course if we kept the old bowl system (except this year, LSU is #1 by a fair margin in the AP and coaches poll) but i don't think that's what he means. The original idea was to pair #1 and #2, with the BCS they decided add the computers and other metrics, which frankly made it more complicated than it needed to be. The biggest controversies of the BCS, particularly 2003* would have been avoided with more human involvement. I'm a fan of the data, but i do like have human make the final decision using the data as a guide rather than strictly going on pure formulas because those can be flawed.

*the controversy in 2003 was OU over USC. LSU was #2 in everything so we would have been in not matter what system you used to pair the top 2 teams.

the 2 are not mutually exclusive. For frick sakes we are #2 in a 4 team playoff bracket. So this year being 2 vs 1 means a tougher opening game, so what, win 2 and you are the champs

Do not be a Pussycat. This is a man’s game.

You showed no confidence or heart in the Tigers. A real Tiger do not run from anything in combat.

Remember what Coach O said;

“We Comin and we Ain’t Backing Down.”

Geaux Tigers!

I agree with this one. Having said that. Alabama and Clemson are already presumed to be playoff teams to,start the year. LSU had to break the freaking door down. If we had a weak schedule we would be 4th or 5th. Maybe lower.

We need to sign DJ Ugaleilei so he’s playing for us in a few years when the home and home starts

Counting games as anything but equal increases the subjectivity of any conclusion you can possibly draw from related data.

It seems every year for 1 loss teams not named Alabama you absolutely need a good resume.

So unless we're merging with them, it doesn't apply to us.

Think UGA if they didn't have the ND game to offset the loss to unranked USCjr.

We continue to schedule FCS teams like Nicholls and McNeese in future years. EdO is a bigtime supporter of that. We better be playing at least one bigtime OOC team to make up for it. Playing NW State this year is hurting us, but having played Texas helps us.
