Brian Kelly was in a semifonal game and a BCS championship game with ND. Getting there wasn’t the problem. Getting there and realizing you couldn't win the whole damn thing was.

Nah, it's more like a competitor doesn't need that kind of motivation.

Definitely still just a narrative. He took notre dame to a national championship game and 2 semifinals before freeman took the job

If getting your arse handed to you by a mediocre Bama team with a new coach wasn’t enough to motivate him, ND beating UGA without their starter at QB won’t.

In order to get to playoffs we need to beat the Bama’s, A&M’s etc.

If he needs motivation other than that we have huge issues at HC.

Dumb comments. Notre Dame has not accomplished anything that they didn’t already accomplish under Kelly. Kelly made it to the national championship game once and CFP semifinals twice. He would have made the 12-team playoff his last season in Notre Dame if it existed back then (2021). Are we giving out rings for CFP semifinal appearances now?

Please stop grasping at straws in an attempt to kick dirt on your own team’s coach who has done a nice job considering what he inherited and who is building a roster that looks championship caliber for 2025.

if he knew the playoffs were expanding prolly would've stayed. He could win 10/11 games against soft teams and make it nearly every year

He would obviously never admit it publicly, but I believe the Irish making a run in these playoffs will have BK more motivated than ever going into next year. He will hear the narrative all off season about how much better the Irish are without him, Freeman is the better coach, blah blah blah.

Hmmm. Artificial motivation to go with fake outrage and fake accent. This is worst than I thought.

I don't question Kelly's motivation. It's the mistakes he has continued to make with his coach staff. Letting Baker and Raymond leave proved to be a mistake. Now letting Denbrock leave is proving to be the same

He could make it alot of years with the 4 teamer just playing that typical soft notre dame schedule. The issue is they werent getting elite talent at that time. Truthfully, kelly leaving motivated notre dame admin and fans to loosen their restrictions and the start of NIL helped them as well. Its not dissimilar to underwood bailing on lsu motivating our fanbase and collective

Let’s not kid ourselves. If Kelly were at ND this year, Kelly would have lost to A&M and USC.

We saw him do it with LSU’s roster this season to those teams. So no, he would not have made it.

Why do you assume his 3rd year roster at lsu would be the same as his 14 year roster at notre dame wouldve been. He was dominating teams up until he left notre dame.

Hell he beat usc the last 4 times he coached against them at notre dame

Want to straight-up trade coaches? I do not. I suspect nearly every one of you would, in a heartbeat.

It’s oddly pathetic when people say anyone with a brain … it’s like ok we we get it lol

I’m more worried about BKs judgement. He said he left ND to go to a place that can win a National Championship.

That’s only part of it. Jack Swarbrick was the AD over BK and was notoriously cheap and BK would beg for more money for facilities for coaches for recruiting etc. Swarbrick wouldn’t budge. BK left for LSU that said they’d open the purse strings (and Swarbrick is gone, new AD Belavaqua is better).

But you also got to acknowledge O left LSU’s cupboards pretty bare. With the sex scandals, the legal settlements and O’s $17M buyout there wasn’t much left. It seems that’s changed a lot in 2024, but wasn’t the case in 2021 when BK arrived.

Let them leave

Is it prison? Are they not grown men? What can he do to stop them? Please don’t say “GiVe tHeM mORe mONey!” It ain’t always about that. For Denbrock it certainly wasn’t about money. He said very publicly that his wife was miserable being so far from home and really wanted to go back North. Blake Baker and Corey Raymond were position coaches and took bigger jobs with Mizzou and Florida. An argument could be made they’d have done better than the DC last year sure, but that’s 20/20 hindsight. Cant ever fault a guy for taking a bigger job to advance his career.

I thought Kelly told Baker and Raymond they weren't being retained. Am I remembering that incorrectly?

Maybe. That’s possible given how incredibly bad the defense was in 2020 and 2021. But either way, Baker took a DC job with Mizzou and Raymond was Asst HC in Florida. Definitely step ups from being LB and DB coaches.
