It's also the time to enter the portal, not the period they have to transfer in. And if memory serves, a player can still play for their current team even if they are in the portal, as long as they have not transferred yet and the current school allows them. Not sure I would want that as a coach, but it is possible.

Would be past the spring enrollment deadlines for pretty much every school.

Maybe it's to make it harder for playoff teams to poach players.

Should be two short windows:

1 - opens day after last playoff game

2 - opens after Spring practice

The real issue is most schools start either during that window or right after.

How the frick is the clearing house supposed to get these kids into spring ball?

No they can’t.

You do realize that this is still “college” football, right? I know, I know, everyone is getting paid and it’s professional football now. But…… it’s still football attached to universities.

Schools start the Spring semester around Jan 20th, so this portal window is actually ideal. Student - Athletes, I guess that’s what they still are, if only in name, have to be enrolled in school in order to attend Spring practice.

Yea with the way Bk has put together LSUs front office Austin Thomas will be doing the heavy lifting.BK will be informed and make the call on who they offer and how much they pay. With the set up the way it is it takes pressure off the coaching staff.

This is a very clear penalty on making the final 4 then.

You will be prepping & trying to recruit/retain a roster just prior to semis & natty?

This is fricking retarded.

LSU is paying a lot of people a lot of money to just focus on the roster. They are better positioned then most.

LSU actually begins class on 12 January 2026. Many Universities are probably on a similar start time for the spring 2026 semester.

So with the exception of the CFP National Championship game, every other team will be done with playing. The CFP National Semis are 8 and 9 January, 2026 respectively.

So if you are a player for the 2 National Championship teams, I guess u could technically leave before the 12th and before the title game. The guys that would do that are the ones buried on the depth chart, I would still think no player would do that, but u never know.

Spring portal window is going away. So once you start spring ball, that is your roster for the next season. Overall I think it is a good change

They decided on that date due to academics. Classes at most schools start right after that window. This promotes fast decisions for kids to make.

The issue is that academic calendars and athletic calendars don’t work in concert.

Las Vegas may be the only ones who like it, where the most important and most heavily bet on games could be affected and sway the outcomes in their favor. The NCAA is garbage.
