Seems net positive for us. Really need help replenishing the roster more than the 25 incoming scholarship limit will allow.

That’s assuming they count against the 85 limit and not the 25 yearly limit.

While I disagree with this, its impact will not be huge. These players will still count against the 25.

The vast majority of the players in the transfer portal end up with nowhere to go, because there are no spots.

So, there already were not enough spots. Throwing more players in the portal will not create any extra spots.

That seals Gilbert's exit I would imagine.

That was the reason for the “opt out”. You can bet another coach was (indirectly, or course) recruiting him.

Dumb question......is this permanent or a reaction to COVID?

Believe the permanent proposal on the table is for a 1-time free transfer, so at least it's not total unlimited transfers.

Well, this is only a temporary measure, but if they pass the permanent measure, I would be hard-pressed to disagree. Imagine how difficult this will make it to plan recruiting over multiple years. Coaches will have little idea what their needs will be. They could lose starters and depth at any moment during the season at any position. And further, this will seriously impede coaches' ability to develop players and instill discipline. The moment you challenge certain primadonna recruits, or refuse to give them playing time early in their career, or try to make them study, they'll threaten to transfer.

And why was this rule change necessary? What good does it promote? None. This is all being done in some horribly misguided attempt to ensure player "equity," whatever that means.

It's so myopic. These pundits and reformers seem to consistently overlook the true source of all the wealth flowing through the world of NCAA football. It doesn't originate with the players. They don't provide revenue. It comes from the fans. The fans drive attendance and- more importantly- fan viewing habits and high ratings drive the lucrative TV mega-contracts. If you take steps to taint and undermine the sport, if you destroy tradition and erode emotional allegiance to the programs, you alienate the fans and ultimately diminish revenue. All the money the stakeholders are squabbling over disappears.

Michigan Soph Center would have 3 years and he's got a couple of starts under his belt. Not sure how good he is but I think 6'5" 320

Would be a solid get

AL just signed the top 2 OT in the country this year. Who can we grab from their OL roster?

NCAA says yes, does Sankey/SEC have any rules in place that would get in the way?

The SEC hasn’t made a decision on inter-conference transfer waivers yet. That could factor into Gilbert’s decision because he would probably try to go back home to UGA. He may not want to sit out a year.

I hope Sankey is smart enough to understand what a shitshow that will become and not allow inter-conference waivers. Bama will be openly recruiting every team in the conference’s top 5 players at all times.

Is Pelini out getting the right guys for his scheme? Or just running around yelling at his shadow?

I think he’s getting ready to pack up and head back to Ohio after we fire him.
