Source tells @TheAthleticCFB that the NCAA Division I Council has approved blanket waiver for all spring-sport athletes to get an extra year of eligibility. Schools will be able to offer less (or zero) aid or match what they provided this year. Up to each school for each athlete.

This is going to make these very interesting.
It will also be up to the school on how much scholarship to give returning players. It can not exceed this years scholarship amount.

Mid-majors are going to get a lot of talent because of this.

Id say the schools like lsu that have big money win here, they will of course match their financial amounts to existing players, smaller schools wont

CLARIFICATION: Spoke with the

— the roster limit is essentially scrapped for the 2021 season. Any senior who returns will NOT count against your 35/27 roster limits in college baseball. There’s no ‘set’ number. Just applies to returning seniors.
Hope this helps.

Basically sounds like there is no roster limit for next year, seniors just get to come back, they are the knly ones granted that privledge. Guessing there will be a big cut the following year.

What about fall sports?
Would love to see Burrow get another year

We only have two seniors on our baseball team, Matt Beck and Aaron George. So we don't have to count them towards our roster limit if they return.
If all of our juniors return, which probably won't happen but just assume it's the case, does that mean we can only bring in 2 new players since we were at the 35 roster limit this past year?

That's how I'm understanding it. When you really think about LSU's roster they won't get a massive benefit from it really. There will have to be some big time decisions made on both incoming freshman and returning players to get to 35 for LSU.
It still seems the NCAA did the right thing, as far as the athletes are concerned. I'm pleasantly surprised by that.

Should open up a whole new group of recruits as graduate transfers.

That sucks for juniors. They should let them come back if they don’t get drafted

Well, they get to come back as juniors. So what exactly sucks?

Because they’ll count against the number since they weren’t seniors. So you’ll potentially be stuck choosing between a talented junior you expected to lose and a talented incoming player you assumed would fill his spot in the total number.
With as frequently as juniors leave it could have made some sense to exclude them from the limit also.

Then you are really tilting the scales into the big boys, that put resources into baseball. Some tough decisions will have to be made by players and coaches, but I think this is probably the best that could have be asked for.

I don’t think they were making the decisions on a sport by sport basis though

Yeah this was done looking at all spring sports, honestly feel like they handled it pretty well, although i wouldve preferred some extra roster spots because they gave everyone an extra year and because of the mlb draft round issue
