This is going to ruin college sports if something isn't done really soon. I personally don't believe a high school recruit should receive any money. A player should not receive any money until after his/her first year is completed. It should go to those players that have done something within the program to earn a right to NIL money. Let the debate begin.

There’s no debate. The courts have ruled.

Employees are hired into companies all the time based on potential alone. There’s no difference between paying a young athlete to sign with you and paying a young engineer.

Both have developed a skill set that the person with money wants to use in order to make more money. It’s not like you tell young office workers “I’ll pay you after the end of your first year, if you turn out to be good.”

No matter the industry, employees are worth whatever value the employer feels they will bring.

Don’t bring up scholarship, room and board. Both sides have clearly decided that’s not enough compensation relative to the value they bring.

So it’s basically going to be the Yankees and Dodgers with the highest payrolls that are going to dominate college football.

No offense … but that is a stupid opinion to have.

Well to start, student athletes aren’t employees of the university. Not really sure what point you’re trying to make.

Take a look at the last twenty years of nattys. Not a lot of diversity in that list.

Schools “shouldn’t” be paying a recruit or a student anything. And this is where the problem is currently.

NIL is for a student to make money off his NIL, not be bought or persuaded to come to a school due to a pot of money boosters have set aside.

I know most are likely doing something similar. I’m not jumping in on just 8&4 right now. I actually love seeing the cat fight between jimmybob and Nikolai.

But some sort of regulations need to be heavily implanted and enforced to ensure kids are being paid for their NIL, not some bargaining bank account just to get them to come.

I have said student athletes should be at least Sophomores before getting NIL deals. NCAA will not be able to make that enforceable but if I owned company and were doing an NIL deal, the athlete must have proven he/she is worthy of the deal and is committed to the University and community. In the day and age of Transfer Portal, I would not pay anyone until I knew it benefited my company, the University, and my community.

Not to be obtuse, but has anyone actually seen anything employing any of those qualities?

I remember the pretty blonde gymnast, with her picture in exercise clothes.

I don't think I've seen a commercial or billboard, or heard a radio ad etc, with any of these guys. Far as I know, they're just getting paid. Only time I hear something, is in a news article discussing it.

I have a lil' feller in 3rd grade who is asking for some NIL. Every store we go into, he wants to talk to the manager. I had to take his cell phone away because he was ready to call the corporate offices.

3rd Grade!! NIL is going to ruin elementary athletics.

Yes let’s specifically ban college freshman , and freshman only , from making money . That is a fantastic idea.

What is the confusing part ?

They have zero NIL value. This isn't pay to play or pay to come. It's allowing players to be paid when their NIL is used, period.

I don’t think I implied the school would be the ones employing them. If an outside interest wants to pay them to represent their law firm/car dealership/etc based upon their projected future marketability why shouldn’t they.

I was addressing the comment where freshman shouldn’t be NIL eligible.
