re: My worst fears about Ed Orgeron seem baseless now

looked pretty good after two games last season too.
Nah. We stumbled through a win vs a very bad BYU team

King of hindsight. I'm sure you were saying this after that game.

That's funny, very few people were saying that then. And I'm sure they were downvoted to hell if they did.

I SWEAR it is never my intention to come and shite on anyone's good feelings...but this kind of stuff kind of begs for a reasonable response.
We are ONE GAME into the 2018 season. And yes...without question...we saw some great things on Sunday night. 100%. Period. Despite what idiots will claim in response to my post, as a life long LSU fan dating back to the 70's, I could not have been happier for what was mostly a curb stomping of Miami on Sunday. Just awesome!
And yet, as a program and as fans who pay attention to it for years should know...we've traditionally looked solid early in the season. Miles' issue for much of the tail end of his time at LSU was finishing what he started. Keep in mind, what nearly got him fired at the end of 2015 was not a shitty season, but a three game skid at the end which seemed to signify no growth in the program and an inability to get back up over the hump he'd had us over earlier. We finished the regular season 9-3, after all. But...until that skid, he had as us 8-0 and ranked #2 in the CFP Poll going into the game with BAMA.
All I'm saying is that while it's great to feel like things might be better than we had even hoped for this season, why go all hyperbolic like this? Unless your fears were not well thought out to begin with, or were not very deep, how does one win over a solid team means that all of them were?
And yes...downvotes will rain down I'm sure. Who cares. But this kind of thing is literally where the expression counting your chikens before they hatch came from. How about we do what the guys who bitched all summer for a "wait and see" attitude asked for...and wait and see just how the middle of the season goes before we start suggesting all of the fears many of us had were entirely baseless? A thing that is impossible to declare after one game...good or bad.
Or is there a reason we need to jump to the opposite conclusion already after one win?
This is a very solid post. The negas pissed me off in the lead up to the season and I defended O, even though I was against the hire. I admit to tsk tsking a few of the negas after the Miami game because they were such a$$holes all off season.
But it's equally important to not swing so far to the other side either. The coaches were fantastic Sunday night. Coaching was better than the players execution. Which has me even more excited for this team's potential.
But it's one game. Just like Troy does not define Ed O, neither does Miami. He's a guy who seems to be doing an excellent job leading a talented staff and recruiting smartly. He's also a guy who will be .500 as a HC after Saturday. The jury is still out and it will be out unless and until he has sustained success here.
The fact remains that we have a ton of difficult games ahead. Georgia and Alabama are elite teams. We get them at home which helps, but both are going to be tough. Auburn in two weeks is going to be a slugfest. I hate playing them in Jordan Hare. And we have arguably the deepest Miss State team ever and the Aggies, who are probably not yet on our level but who have a good coach for the first time since joining the league. Plus, you know that Ole Miss and Arky are going to give us their best shot like they always do.
The point is, I hope that the Miami game allayed some concerns about Ed. But Ed's still got a lot of challenging times ahead. I feel like our staff is up for the challenge, but they are going to have to prove it.

This is where I disagree. Not every problem.
I will give him credit for triage and fixing the ones that were fixable immediately, immediately.
Except for early in the game, agreed- did look well prepared. And I'll give him credit for nipping that shite in the bud.
And for those that de-value that credit because "he's coaching for his job"...
A) so what, doesn't devalue it at all.
B) I think all coaches should be
C) was one of the problems with Les, he was too comfortable and had political backing (hence he felt no pressure to like change the offense). It's a good thing what that motivator results in an increase in net results.
To critique O...
A) can the improvement continue?
B) when the hot seat is gone is the motivation?
C) can you do this every game, for a season. Let's see.
Another excellent post.

nice start to the season but he still has a lot to prove. let's see how the rest of the schedule plays out.

I'm all about moving past last season and am getting excited about the prospects of this season, but it's not like people are just pulling things out of thin air to "bash".
Agreed. But with LNCHBOX, it's all he does.

Y’all are ridiculous. Wait till after our first loss. Everyone on here being positive will be calling for the whole staff to be fired. I’m sure I’ll be right there with all of you idiots, so let’s hold up on the “O is a great coach circle-jerk”
Posted on 9/5/18 at 2:03 pm to Spotswoode
Let’s see how well he pushes the buttons when the game is close or on the line. Sunday night was far from a litmus test.

Did you bother reading what I was responding to? Of course you didn't.

Recruiting has been very good. Some will point to the low ranking last year, but I think that was due to the arbitrary nature of the rankings - they just did not rank Louisiana kids high last year. We'll see if they're right. And he is pulling in a highly ranked class this year.
Recruiting hasn't returned to what it was before Orgeron, yet, IMO. When that happens, fans can rightfully stop being worried because if recruiting is elite, the next coach will be able to hit the ground running without rebuilding...even if Orgeron fails on the sideline.

I think you may be wrong.

Both Georgia and LSU fired successful coaches around the same time for underperforming. Georgia took an uptick in their fortunes. As of now, the verdict is out for LSU. As far as the two head coaches who lost their jobs because of it, one got a very good job in a strong Power 5 Conference, while the other is on TV watering lawns with fake beer.

Yes. Someone posted something nice about Coach O and you were right here on cue to shite all over him. Believe it or not, no one needs you to correct every misstatement or exaggeration about our team or coach that happens to be positive.
You're consistently negative. No one is saying that you're not correct sometimes or make a valid point sometimes. But you are ALWAYS negative. When that is the case, it's accurate to accuse you of bashing.

False.

Well it isn't the case. So again

Ed O or Mark Richt?
Mark Richt does not have top 5 and 10 recruiting classes at Miami yet.
With that said, they could still very easily end up ranked above us and maybe even in the playoff.

Wow, three whole posts. Don't hurt yourself. I'm not buying in after one game, sorry. I've given credit to 0 for that game, that's all he's earned so far.
I'm not nothing but negative, you're just choosing to only see that. That's a you problem. If you're expecting me to start spamming this place with fake praise, it's not happening.
ETA: I actually just clicked your links, and wow. Talk about you reaching.

Look, we got a nice win, but Miami is a fraud, and they were actually exposed late last year. They're on a 4 game losing streak. They'll be nowhere near the top 10 by season's end.

I was surprised O's Tigers looked better prepared for the opener than Richt's team.
