Saban had the better winning percentage (75% to 71%) and took over a much worse situation with fewer than half the NFL level players on the roster Orgeron inherited.

After 54 games they each had the same number of wins therefore the winning percentage is the same.

So just exclude 27 games? Ok

No, just comparing the records after the same number of games. We can only speculate what Saban would have done had he coached 27 more games, but he stopped at 54.qw

I understand but the comparison you’re rebutting is about seasons or years of a coach’s career so there’s a false equivalence in the comparison.

The cookie monster was 10-25 his first 3 years as a HC. Saban would have committed suicide with that record.
He also took over a pretty damned well run machine from Les at LSU, who had refused to adapt to the modern game and had to go.
Saban took over a floundering LSU and turned it into the power that it is today.
LSU won IN SPITE of the cookie monster. LSU won BECAUSE OF Nick Saban.
But you know this. Your just being obtuse.

Yep.
And for those who say a return is "never going to happen", here is an article from exactly 11 months ago. WARNING, it's written by Louisiana's resident attention seeker and "hot take" artist, Glenn Guilbeau. However, some of the nuggets within are relevant today....
quote:
It’s good to dream.
And many LSU basketball fans, including one or two LSU Board of Supervisors members, and a few media members with still-heavy man crushes on former coach Will Wade were fervently hoping, and in some cases, feverishly working to try to get Wade back at LSU in recent months, weeks and even days.
“That’s never going to happen as long as Scott Woodward is athletic director,” an LSU insider told Tiger Rag on Wednesday.
quote:
And if there was one afoot, there will no longer be any concerted effort, including by a certain political power or two, to try to pressure Woodward into hiring Wade back. It was Woodward who rightly fired Wade in March of 2022 amid a plethora of major NCAA violations while LSU’s coach from 2017-22.
Such a Wade coup wasn’t going to happen without a fight, and Woodward is more connected politically than any LSU athletic director in history and as connected as some in Louisiana politics now. He used to play that game in Baton Rouge before he went the athletic director route.
LINK/
Why is the article relevant now? First, it provides further credence to what many have suggested on here (myself included) that there was a behind the scenes push last offseason to get Wade back to LSU. Second, it's notable because 11 months later: (1) One of the unnamed BOS members is now the Chairman of the BOS (2) who was appointed to that position by one of the unnamed "certain political power or two" (one of whom resides in the Governor's Mansion) and (3) the person who was "never going to allow" Wade to be rehired is no longer the AD.
I'm not going to predict Wade will return to LSU. But for those who defiantly (and ignorantly) state "LSU will never considering hiring Wade again", those impediments are GONE. And even if you think it's only delusional LSU fans who think a reunion could be possible, here's a snippet from a national writer just yesterday about coaches on the hotseat:
quote:
Matt McMahon, LSU
Why it’s hot: McMahon was great at Murray State. He’s gone splat at LSU. If LSU wants to be an “everything school,” it must fix its basketball program. What better time than with a new athletic director, new president and new board of supervisors chairman? Would Will Wade listen to a "strong-arse offer"?
It seems odd that a national writer would just suggest that out of nowhere

What's insane is that if the season ended today. LSU would qualify for the NIT based on being one of the Top 2 SEC schools not in the NCAA Tourney.
Currently ahead of OU, Ole Miss, Miss State, and South Carolina in NET/Kenpom/BPI.

That's why the NIT is even more irrelevant now than it had already been for decades. It's also shows that McMahon's only "accomplishment" was really nothing more than a forced participating trophy instead of a true merit based achievement. Ole Miss, who was ahead of LSU, declined the NIT invite that year and the NIT was forced (by its rules) to take LSU.
Hopefully, if the NIT is forced to take LSU again this year, LSU will just decline the offer because it is in the midst of a coaching search.

quote:Ask the real AD's at LSU that question.
Who is out there that might could turn this around.
Most of us know who Rousse and Mallet want.
They'll see if he's interested (I'm sure they're already had conversations) after the season and make the hire, then "Assistant" AD Ausberry will publicly announce it...........

Most likely because your precious minor sport baseball would be threatened by having hoops rolling again. Or it could be the racial makeup of the sport. Or both reasons.
What a laughable comment.
If the racial makeup of sports determined my level of interest, football would be right out of the window.
And baseball threatened by bouncy ball? Puleeze.
The reason that I don’t like hoopty hoops is because it sucks. Pure and simple.
I do, however, recognize that a great program would bring revenue, which is why LSU needs someone far better than Will “the cheater who can’t even advance past the Sweet 16 when he’s cheating” Wade.

How do you expect someone with an IQ above room temperature to take you seriously???
Bouncy ball?
Several intelligent posters have articulately posted Will Wade’s record and how it compares to legends including Coach K and how it’s better at his stage in coaching. Wade has won everywhere he has been and won an NCAA tournament game with a perennial doormat, McNeese!! You obviously are too stupid to see how good of a coach, talent evaluator and motivator that Wade is, not to mention how he can motivate a fan base. We would be extremely lucky to have him back. But you do you, go pull for USL or LSU baseball or whatever. You clearly don’t want LSU to be a contender in basketball again, whatever your idiotic motive.

In your estimation, what percentage of successful college football or basketball coaches don't "cheat".
Notice I'm not even mentioning college baseball, because no other major school's fan base gives a FLYING FLUCK about it.
And what I mean by that is how many actually do it, OR have it done for them.
Either scenario is cheating, by the way.
So what do you think that percentage is?
Don't be a PUSSY and ignore the question.

The 2 motives for Recovering coon arse's hatred of basketball are race, and she's scared baseball will drop back to 3rd like it was under Dale.
Oh, and the claim that she likes football so she can't be racist is akin to "I have a black friend, so I'm not racist". It's PATHETIC.
