Really cool!
Dinardo was the coach when I was about his age and really started understanding football. When my love for LSU was really getting going.

Your son has a bright future!

Joe Dean called GN THE most intelligent college football coach he knew, referencing his multiple degrees at Notre Dame. But Dean said he had horrible people skills, & never trusted his assistant coaches, insisting on running every little aspect of the offenses & defenses.

IMHO his biggest mistake was not hiring Tepper in and of itself. It was that when Baldwin was all but hurt about not getting the DC job, he brazenly and fairly openly started undermining the program at every opportunity and Dinardo kept him around to keep doing it.

And dont give my son any SH$*, he is 12 and loves Sports Reporting.

Well he’s already doing a better job than most of the local guys on 104.5, so you have nothing to worry about

Thanks Guys

He has a video of when he was able to get down on the field and in the locker room after the Bama game this past season. Me and his mom were sitting up in our seats and my wife asked "Do you think he is down on the field" I told her absolutely he is. He was sitting down with a recruit and was able to storm the field and go inside the locker room. Its a memory I know he will never forget.

Dinardo did a LOT of good things for LSU football. He did one bad thing for his career here, however: Lou Tepper.

What was he thinking?

DiNardo......

* Bring back the Magic.
* Recruited and got Kevin Faulk in here.
* Got the "Home White" jersey's back.
* Removed the Tiger Eye at mid-field.
* Removed the big LSU logos in the endzones.
* Let DC/DL coach Carl Reese leave for Texas and replaced him with screaming Ed Cullen (DL) and infamous Lou Tepper as DC, two moves which destroyed what he had built. He refused to correct these hiring mistakes and was "Farewell and Adieu" after the loss to Houston.

I don't know if I would go so far as to say he put us on the road to success, but . . .

100% this. I will always hold Gerry DiNardo in high regard because I truly believe he (and Kevin Faulk, who he recruited) saved LSU football. LSU football was literally on the verge of falling into indefinite irrelevance before he got here. If he had been another Hallman or Archer and handed us four more straight losing seasons, we genuinely could be a Tulane-level program now (imo). Instead, he had a run of good (not quite great) years that sustained the program and reinvigorated the fan base significantly, such that when he did end up fall short we were in a position to attract a quality coach (who turned out to be pretty darn good).

True Story - Dinardo was originally from Brooklyn NY. The LSU Alumni Association arranged a crawfish boil in NYC to meet the Coach. At a place called Brother Jimmy's on the UES in Manhattan. The crawfish comes out and Coach clearly hasn't had much experience with eating them. He struggled and appeared to put the head near his mouth -- immediately one of the ladies with the Association comes running over saying Coach let me help you. I don't recall the comeback but I'm not sure he ever became a big fan. We did chat a bit about being from NY and now living in BR. Nice guy, down to earth. I think I mentioned the 28-8 beat down of ND by LSU and Bert Jones. As you may recall he played for ND.

I guess it was just a coincidence, but I had listened to the interview before I saw your post. I thought your son did a great job, and I liked that DiNardo encouraged him.

Very impressed by the job your son did!

props to Gerry D for taking the time to be interviewed by a legit cub reporter. That says a lot about him as a man.

Agreed. He seemed to take it very seriously and showed a tremendous amount of respect when he could easily have blown it off as a joke with a kid.

Joe Dean hired him just after losing 65-0 in his last game at Vandy.

No one wants to admit Gerry laid the foundation for the house Saban built

Gerry was also a paranoid prick that didn’t want to hire assistants smarter than him so that about did him in

meh. I think a lot of people acknowledge that. I'd go as far to say that Saban may have never seen the potential at LSU if Dinardo hadn't come before him.

Nah few acknowledge most of the key players on that sugar bowl team were DiNardo players

Now Gerry could have never developed them but he did begin the process of building the wall around the state

I think the arse whipping we gave Arkansas with Hal as interim is what got Nick’s attention
