Great original post. I could add stories as well but this post sums it all up very succinctly.

Thanks for the post. I think we all knew that before you posted it.

I have defended Les many times here. The intangible (what you just described) he brings forces me to give the man a fair shake (which he was never given from the start)

I hope he continues to do well. He is a fine man and loves LSU probably more that LSU loves him. Funny he get compared with someone who is totally opposite of that.

No 90% of the people would not and you and the rest of Alabama got your fricking break when Saban couldn't cut it in the NFL as a head coach and came back to college...

Just an FYI.. Les has never lost to a non SEC team until Penn St beat us in the Cap 1 bowl and certainly never lost to the likes of ULM, UAB and Miss St.

Cool story man.

Not trying to call out on this part, but maybe just to help me understand.

So, you ask Saban to come to your office, he agrees to do so. You're in your office, tell him this story and thank him. And after he agrees to come to your office and hears your story, he literally said not one word and just walked out?

That just seems odd.

I love CLM, but I'm right there with Saban despite the fact that I hate Saban. I'll admit that Les Miles is certainly the cooler guy according to this story, but I probably would have done the same thing as Saban.

My Saban Story:

My wife and I had a kid a few years ago that was brain damaged. We took him to BDS for fanday in hopes that Saban would lay hands on him and possibly cure him of his low IQ.After standing in line for hours we came before Saban and he stood from the chair he was sitting in whild signing autographs and approached.

Naturally I trembled with both fear and delight as he approached and my eyes welled up with tears as he took our little from my wife.

He immediately threw the kid on the ground and stomped on his head to put him out of his misery. I was stunned to say the least and then he explained that the kid as well as the rest of our family would be better off in the long run. Silence had fallen upon the stadium and then once he explained it the entire crowd fell to their knees and a big Roll Tide echoed from above.

We all thought it was Coach Bryant but it seems that a GA had turned on the jumbotron. Anyway, things have actually been better and now I don't have to worry about sending one of my kids to Auburn for a sociology degree.

Just thought I would share.

Roll Tide!!

That's awesome! Who wouldn't want to play for him? He has confidence in his players. He takes chances when it matters. He has the respect of his players. He don't put up with BS. He wins games any way he can. What else can you ask for??

So, once again, Les is a better family man than Saban, and Saban is still a better coach. Cool stories

Never accept responsibility for failure. That is what I recall most from Coach Sabin. It will be interesting to see how he handles negative results at Bama, now that he got them to the top of the hill.

Actually, it was kind of clever and had a point. Did push the envelope I guess.

I thought it was funny as well, Coach Saban was nice to me when he gave me his autograph. Maybe they are both nice guys!

Maybe Miles just was able to maintain the program during a transitional period, unlike Mark Richt, Joe Paterno, and Mack Brown this year.

I have to admit that I have been critical the last couple of years. But, this statement really makes me re-think things: puts it in another perspective for me. Thanks for enlightening me.

We all know there are still issues, but this thread, not the Alabama win, has made me realize that there is a distinct possibility that I have been very mistaken in my analysis and conclusions of Coach Miles. For what it's worth, I like to think I'm human enough to admit when I have erred.

Thanks for all the great "perspective" of this thread.

I think it is obvious that Saban and Miles are polar opposites. Many LSU fans think there is only one way to coach ... Saban's way. Saban is a good coach but very single minded to a fault. Miles has a life outside football and his player love the guy. Do you think Saban's players love him? They fear and respect him, they love to win. However Miles' approach generates a team that plays for each other and their coach. They win too and have fun as well.

The post game conference comments from Saban were as bad as anything Miles has ever said. Saban essentially blamed the fans, their expectations and players for the loss. Ever hear Miles throw his team under the bus? Every hear Saban say he loves his team and their spirit. Ever hear how much fun it is to work for Saban?

Tiger fans we have a committed coach who loves LSU, his players and is comfortable in his own skin. He isn't perfect but neither is Saban.

Great story and that is Les. A similar story that happened to my Brother-n-Laws mother during Katrina. She was in East Jefferson Hospital recovering from knee surgery. Once the Hurricane hit they tranported her to the P-Mac. Sitting in the stadium waiting to be sent somewhere else, she had to go to the restroom and one of the nurses took her. When she got back most of all the other patience that were around her were gone. She start crying because she has no family there, she dosen't know where she is fixing to be sent and worried where her kids may be. Two men hear her crying and come over to ask her what is wrong. She tells them and they just sit down and keep her company. One of them gets up and goes to find out whats going on and the other just sits with her and chats about family the storm, where she was from. The nurses come back and the men give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek...She tells this story to her son and he is happy there was someone there with her. He asked if she had gotten there names and she said it was two nice men.. Les and Jimbo. She did not know them from Adam, but she knew they were true gentlemen. I have been a critic of Miles but never a hater. He is a good man.
