Mullen to Florida is good for LSU

He’s a damn good coach and it gets him out of the west. I’m all for balancing the conferences and weakening Alabama’s recruiting base.
LSU pulls recruits out of Florida who have ties to Louisiana either by family or some sort of past relationship. It’s not like we’re raiding Florida for recruits. Alabama, however, does and it’s where they get a ton of their talent. UF getting some or most of that talent only serves to weaken Alabama.
Secondly, with Mullen leaving state and OM being down (lol) Louisiana will continue to raid Mississippi for players. I’ve seen a lot of people hating that Mullen is looking like he’ll go to Florida, but I’d love it.
Balance the conference power, build the east back up, and limit Alabama’s ability to cherry-pick the state of Florida. Alabama simply cannot win at the level that they do it they have to rely on in-state talent. They also have Auburn to compete with. Georgia is getting better and will soon begin to stop the bleeding of recruits to Alabama. Florida will weaken them even more.
ETA: Yes, I am aware that we play Florida every year. Losing to Florida, if we do, does little or nothing to affect our situation in the West. We could still win the West with 1 loss to Florida, but the current situation, the one where Alabama is a powerhouse means that we cannot compete. Winning the West with a loss to Florida, and going to the SECCG (with a chance to win) is better than losing to Bama and a toss-up w State. As it sits now, we’d continue to place 2nd or 3rd in the West and watching Alabama get to the playoffs every year (they’ll likely get in this year) All while we keep playing Iowa, TTech, and Louisville in mediocre bowls.

isn't Florida's permanent east opp?
Nothing has changed - if you don't think Florida isn't a sleeping giant, then come to reality.

I'm completely fine with Mullen to Florida.
Let's see how well he can recruit. Obviously he's at Florida, so he'll get better classes than he got at State. But he's a goof ball. Let's see how many top 5 classes he can pull in there. I don't think it will be many.
Get him away from State. I want that back to a rent-a-win every year.

That is just one area, and Alabama doesn't get that many FL recruits anyway.

Interesting take. The only thing that bothers me is he will likely build Florida back to being a powerhouse and they are our permanent East opponent.

Good for LSU? Yeah right. A loss to Florida still hurts our SEC record just the same and we already got drubbed by him in Starkville.

I disagree with your read on the situation.
Mullen won't be an elite recruiter at Florida. His offense is gimmicky and easy to recruit against. Mullen at Florida is great for Florida State and Miami because they will get the better end of the recruiting stick.
It won't affect LSU or Miami.

Would be better for us if he'd go to Tennessee and make them decent again. Bama gets a nice and easy cross division game when UT is down, as well as bama cherrr picking recruits from Tennessee . We don't get a lot of players from tenn so wouldn't affect us

Honestly it's a win win. Good hire for them, and even though we play them every year it's no longer a West game. Hopefully this drops MSU back to the bottom where they belong.

It weakens Moo State but helps UF a ton.
We play both every year. All in all it’s better for LSU with Mullen at Moo State.

Agreed but Tennessee whiffed this coaching search. Dumbasses actually thought they were getting Gruden.

no it doesn't.
It's Dan Mullen. He is certainly a good coach, but let's see how he can recruit.
If he were hired at LSU, no one would have been jumping for joy.
nb4 well he's better than Coach O!!!!!!11

Mullen's record is 69-46 at MSU? That is not very impressive.

Florida has a ton of talent. He will recruit well there.

how is a team we play every year having a better coach than us good for LSU?
Help me see the light?

Why would we want a coach of Mullins caliber at UFF? We play them every year and UFF will draw better athletes than MooState.
Hopefully, he stays where he is and UFF hires another butter toothed shark molester.

I beg to differ on the contrary.

Recruiting is all about relating to the players.
Mullen is a goof ball.
According to 247, these are Florida's recruiting class rankings lately:
2017 - 11th
2016 -12th
2015 - 21st
2014 - 9th
Most of that is under McElwain, who is another goober who's not from the south.
No guarantees he recruits well there at all. I'm not saying Florida is going to suck. They won't. But I think Mullen will be an 9-3 type of coach there. He's not going to have them in the playoff race year in and year out.
