Mulkey’s halftime comment about the over inflated balls

Was there some truth to this? There were a few missed shots that flew back to the arch, and a few players simply losing the ball while just dribbling.
It was funny when she said if she was home watching this game, she would have turned it off.

There have been complaints from both the men's and women's sides (players and coaches) about the NCAA tournament balls. The complaints range from the slickness, inflation, bounce, etc. No one is sure exactly the problem and of course, the NCAA is either mum or oblivious to the problem.

She brought it back up again in her Post game presser and Alexis Morris talked about it and was complaining about it all game according to mulkey.

Both tournaments have had issues with the balls the last two years. It was a new ball introduced for the first time in last years first four. Very little use it in regular season play, and many have complained about the surface and inflation in men’s and women’s.

There maybe something to it. The women’s ball they are using for the tournament looks like those cheap orange rubber basketballs we used as kids growing up in the 80s and 90s. Those things used to be like super bounce balls if they got over inflated. In my head watching the games this weekend I was saying there’s no way those balls are leather. They’ve go to be some kind of gluten free politically correct non animal hide hybridized b-ball.

I don't know about the inflation but that damn orange ball bugs the crap out of me. I know it shouldn't.

Last night unless the ball went straight thru the rim, if it touch the rim, seemed like the ball would bounce around rim and come back out, the amount of missed layups that bounded off rim was very strange last night

I remember thinking that on one play in the second half. LSU play broke free on the left side of the lane and was driving for an open layup. The ball just bounced very high and was gone. I was like wtf did i just see.

There have been times in both tournaments where teams can't throw it in the ocean, including teams in the top 10 in the country in FG percentage. Maybe it's just good D or nerves, but could be shitty cheap rubber balls.

Iowa didn’t seem to have any trouble shooting it. That being said, there is no excuse for NCAA to use a ball so different from what teams used all year. Anyone who has played enough bball has encountered that type ball at some point - slick, hard, over-bouncy. That ball was always tossed to the side when the game started. But that’s not an option when all the balls are the same.

If one only had a way to check that pesky psi

Well, just remember one thing...if it was over inflated, it was the same ball being used by both teams.
I think both teams showed awful shooting as well as careless passing of that over inflated ball.

They knew coming in to the game LSU had one of the best offenses in the country. Really makes you wonder what exactly was going on with the overinflated balls.

The ball has nothing to do with a missed layup. Rooting hard for this team but they can't shoot. That shite was unwatcheble last night.
On the flip side, in the game following, Iowa and Louisville had no problems putting it in the hoop.

The ball has nothing to do with a missed layup?
Tell me you’ve never played basketball without telling me you never played basketball. And don’t give me some crap about being all pro back in the day. Anyone that has ever played knows that changing the ball type or air pressure changes everything from dribbling to shooting.

Most layups are going to bounce either off the backboard or at least touch the side of the rim. An overinflated, overly bouncy ball absolutely will impact layups.

It can absolutely make a difference at game speed

You've never shot a layup have you?

Didn't Katie Meier say something about it in her press conference as well?

Not saying they were overinflated because I don’t know, but if they were, it absolutely impacts layups. You ever played basketball?
