It's being thrown around that LaTech missed the boat by not keeping CKM. We know LaTech helped put women's basketball on the map in the 80's, but could CKM have recruited to Ruston well enough to keep up with the Tennessee's and UCONNs back in the day?

Are you under the impression that Storrs, Connecticut is some bustling metropolis?

She could win a championship pretty much anywhere she’d go. She’s just a winner at everything she does. Truly a special leader/person with rare talents.

She could have, but I just don't know if LA Tech would keep paying her what top coaches demand these days.

La Tech was a national brand when Leon Barmore (spelling) retired. He won national titles. He made it to final fours. He also lost in the national title game to the most epic buzzer beater in women’s college basketball history (UNC down by 2 and inbound with 0.5 seconds left to a made 3).

La Tech was a blue blood women’s college basketball program. They botched the hire when he retired and Mulkey never looked back.

I remember when the AD at Tech let KM go to Baylor because KM wanted a 5 year contract & the Tech AD was only willing to give her a 4 year deal.

And with that 1 decision the Lady Techsters dynasty was officially DEAD!!!

Leon Barmore(sp) did a pretty great job at making them nationally relevant….I don’t why KM couldn’t have done the same.

That shot, btw, probably should not have counted. Girl had time to catch ball, take a step up and shoot. No way that happens in .5 seconds. I probably should let it go. LOL

I just watched the highlight because I didn’t remember it. It was actually 0.7 but I agree.

They offered her a shitty, short term contract after she stuck it out there as an assistant waiting for her shot. She basically gave them the middle finger and went to Waco.

Ruston is getting a Bucees. Anyone will be able to recruit there.

If Mulkey had been coaching Iowa yesterday, Iowa would be National Champs today. Let that sink in.

Do people actually think Mulkey would still be coaching at LaTech today when her current salary is well over 2 million dollars and Tech can't even pay their football coach 1 million?

Kim might have coached there for a little while, but a time would have come quickly when they couldn't afford her and she would have found a high-paying Power 5 job.

Word was that Mulkey wanted a long term contract and Tech would not agree to that. If Tech would have kept Mulkey by offering head coach they would have continued as a top women’s team. Mulkey would have attracted elite players and Tech would have been a dominant team like Baylor.
