Gary James - Drafted in the 2nd round to Detroit, Dalton Hilliard also in the 2nd Round to the Saints.
Was focusing on the question of most over-rated. James was much more highly touted coming out of HS than Hilliard.
That said, have to give him his due--he did finish in the Top 10 all-time in LSU RB stats for most yards gained & most carries.
Too bad James went to such a wretched organization as the Lions--Hilliard fared much better in his pro career with the Saints.

They lucked out with the east schedule that year too.

but still, the fact remains
an OL who couldn't pass block, a horrible QB, and 1 WR

Just pointing it out. It was a hell of a backfield though.

it was amazing
their D is underrated by many

Robert Davis, no competition. Homewood Alabama. First true frosh to ever start at RB for LSU if I recall. Left and went to UAB but I think he lasted one season. UAB beat their chest that they finally got a player over us. We actaully had Derrick Lassic, martin Houston, Sherm Williams and Tarrant Lynch that carried us to the 92 NC. Doubt he would have played.
As crazy as it sounds I'd have to throw Chas Alexander in there too. Saw him play twice and was less than overwhelmed. Didnt get many TV games back then and had heard all week in 78 or 9 about this beast. Didnt even really know it was him until I payed attention. Good, not great. Actaully had a decent career in Cincy though.

Further proof that some of our fans are clueless.

That whole class of RB's was overrated - him, Toomer, Moore, Butler, Johnson. Davis and Johnson, however, at least had 100 yard rushing games. Davis ran all over A&M (aided by a long scamper) and Miss State to open up the year; Johnson ran all over a very formidable Ole Miss team in '93. Yes, they were both nothing compared to what they were supposed to be and neither graduated from LSU. Still, they were better than the others and oh yeah - Kevin Franklin was a HUGE bust, too...but anyone with sense already knew that.
Hallman's first big class was full of RB's out of HS. Goes to show you just how poor of a recruiter Archer really was. Hallman was a much more pathetic coach, however.

What the frick, Toomer was by far the best out of Davis, Kevin motherfricking Franklin, I liked Toomer, thought he was very good. Harvey Williams no way I totally disagree, good college player and had a good NFL career. Barrington Edwards overrated I agree with Keiland Willams has not been the beast everyone thought he would be. He is good but for whatever reason hasn't lived up to the hype. Kendall Cleveland I thought was a good player and a good change of pace compared to Faulk and Mealey.

As far as fan love its Hester. He was a good RB, but on a very talented team. Most people on here would take a load to the face from him and then give him 5 bucks for the pleasure he gave them.
Also Hester v. DMac debate lulz.

Man you guys are stupid. Any kid who sets the single game rushing record or helps win a championship isnt that overated. Some kids get injured or break out early and drop off.
As far as a kid being overated before coming to LSU that goes to Robert Davis from Alabama under Curly. He got here and was terrible and transferred to UAB.
Id have to say RJ Jackson or Richard Murphy might be at the top of the list though as well.

Why do people keep naming this guy?
He was a total failure. Everyone knows he sucked so how is he overrated?

Harvey Williams??? Dude was a freshman and sophmore all-american. ran for over 1,000 yards as a soph. while sharing time with Sammy Martin! got hurt against Tulane as a soph., sat out a whole year, was injury plagued as a junior, and ran for almost 1,000 yards on a very shitty team as a senior. wound up being a first round draft choice to KC. how is that over-rated???
