Most of The Rant was right. JD just has to pull the trigger on what the D gives him.

Throwing deep opens up the offense. Of course the MSU DBs were playing up on those double moves deep by the WRs but it's really nice to see JD pull the trigger when defenses are showing that kind of alignment. He did not do that in the FSU game as much as he should have. FSU was manning up most of the time to eliminate his running ability.

On a side note these deep balls to LSU WRs are not 50/50 balls. With proper ball placement those deep throw are more like 75/25 balls where the only chance is a completion or overthrow incompletion.

If there is any criticism of JD's deep throws yesterday they were a little underthrown. Credit Nabers for recognizing the slightly underthrown balls early, throttling down and accelerating to the ball. In other words, great adjustment by Nabers. IMO many of our WRs have that ability. Furthermore credit Denbrock and JD for forcing MSU to cover Nabers with a safety. MSU did adjust in the second half and IIRC JD responded to throwing to BTJ when he was covered by the safety.

I just like the defensive recognition by JD and most importantly having the confidence to pull the trigger against what JD was reading.

Player on the team has a great game and you find a way to make it about yourself.

What is the problem with this?? JD5 stretching the field has been a priority all off-season. That’s straight from BKs own mouth. He did that against state and the offense was great. It won’t always be as good as it was yesterday, but we need to continue to take shots down the field.

JD said it himself after the FSU game that he has to allow his receivers to make more plays. He also said it last year in interviews. Brian Kelly has said it numerous times including at halftime this week - he made a comment about how JD is doing that and the results show.

I don't understand how there has to be this fight amongst the fan base over it. It's a known and admitted issue he has. We should all be excited at his play this weekend and look forward to him continuing it moving forward.

Hopefully that's a sign of chemistry developing. A QB is more comfortable making those throws when he has a receiver he trusts to go and get a less than perfect pass.

Absolutely none. The entire point is to make the defense defend as much of the field as possible and yesterday's offensive output is a perfect example of the how the offense opens up when defenses are forced to defend a bigger field.

I agree. I was defending your post. You seemed to be nit picking a little bit about the under thrown balls part. Maybe that’s what’s getting the downvotes.

The lingering point of contention was JD pulling the trigger against what the defense gives him especially throwing deep when the defense plays up. He now he has two games in a row where that has not been an issue.

It’s the most glaring thing between the success and failure of the offense. Receivers are not going to be wide open on every play. When the offense struggles, it’s usually because Daniels refuses to make contested passes and just takes off or takes the sack. It’s why the receivers often get frustrated with him going back to last year.

The other half of the fanbase caused the fights by shitting on Daniels every chance they can.

I’m reminded of Joe Burrow telling Herbstreit “If I can see the db’s name on his jersey, my guy is open.” Doesn’t matter how tight the coverage is.

He did no such thing. His entire post was about JD. It was generally positive, but with a small amount of critique. It was a good, well-reasoned, post.

You realize deep balls are underthrown intentionally....right?
