Aranda is a very good DC. My only beef is I'd like the defense to be more aggressive. He typically does not blitz much and has admittedly used the DL to take up blockers.

O said in the spring that was going to change and the DL would play upfield and we did the exact opposite vs Texas and played the "cage" scheme. I just think it's never a good idea to allow the QB to be comfortable in the pocket and allow the offense to dictate the game. You hit the QB every chance you get with pressure. If he scrambles and gets 10 yards, fine, but you make him pay everytime he scrambles. Pressure creates turnovers and sacks and that's how you win. I'd rather give up the occasional big play than die the slow death we did on D Saturday.

Eaux thinks he’s tremendous and fought hard to keep him. That’s good enough for me

With our skill set my personal opinion is to use the pressure defense the entire game and if the big play happens so be it.

I was surprised we didn't see more blitzing vs UT on third and long situations.

Also, fwiw, advanced metrics are far more kind to our offense too. They realize the defenses we play, the style, etc.

Yep. The offense had its ups and downs last year but it wasn’t as atrocious as some may say. It needed to improve, obviously, but looking at it objectively it wasn’t THAT far off from being where we needed it to be. My main gripe all year was our red zone execution. Obviously what we’ve seen so far this year has been outstanding.

We’ve got a really good thing going this year. But for some reason there’s always gotta be a boogie man among our fans. I guess that’s Aranda now

Only thing I've noticed is that Aranda is not as aggressive as I thought he would be coming from Wisconsin. His reputation was to bring disguised blitz schemes that didn't weaken you in coverage. This was not the case against Texas at all. I didn't notice any zone blitzes and very few twists up front. I don't know if that's personnel or his plan.

I think LSU is a little weak at the nickel and even more so at #2 safety position with Harris and Stevens still figuring out proper leverage with tackling and coverage and they are a little slow with their ball skills against better competition. Also think the LBs are struggling in coverage, and we aren't seeing an interior pass rush.

In his defense, the refs in college don't enforce holding like they should or do in the NFL. It's something that is and has been infuriating for LSU football fans, and it has neutralized one of LSU's biggest advantages with a big, athletic freak coming off the edge.

*Long story short, Aranda needs to be more aggressive rushing the passer or our LBs and 2nd safety/nickel corner will give up a lot of yards against a spread attack. And Refs need to call holding!!!

Maybe offenses in the SEC have changed a little bit since 2014.

At this point why would we want Aranda as our HC. He has not shown much ability in that direction. For one he has not shined as a recruiter.

Orgeron is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Aranda has been lit up By Bama TAM UCF and Now Texas. Our offense was dominated by Bama. Our defense put up a fight for about a quarter. We are still behind Bama on the line of scrimmage talent and depth wise. Our back 7 is plenty good enough to challenge Bama.

At this point to beat Bama we will have to out score them

Aranda has deficits. The aura around him in here is baffling.

That said he is plenty good enough to win championships with.

During the 2000s our rosters were built and talented enough to run the ball very effectively on just about any team in the country... Our defenses were in the field less and were able to stay fresh... Which helped their "counting stats."

We wanted a more dynamic offense that can stretch the field and score more points....and as a result of that our defenses are going to be put back on the field quicker at times and games are going to open up towards the end.

Our defense is built to win football games not to win imaginary stats championships... Most advanced metrics have LSU as a top 25 defense every season Aranda has been here.

Jesus fricking Christ at the amount of stupid.

I’m still waiting on a suggestion for better DC. I’ve yet to get one. Aranda is at the top of the DC field. Everyone who matters knows it.

What happened in the 2nd half of that game to our D is troubling. I think some may have been scheme but the players missed a lot of tackles some of which changed how things turned out. Don’t know why they missed the tackles, but they did.

Including UCF in this is kind of dumb.

Just a head's up. If you start a thread about a GG article and do not mention it is a GG article, you will be down voted into oblivion.

If opposing coaches could remove one piece from our coaching chessboard, it would be Aranda. (Brady sneaking up fast)

I’m still waiting for someone to name a defensive guru who has NOT been lit up more than once. Look at Saban the last few years. A talented QB can do that.

I give Aranda a pass on stats last few years since our offense was atrocious and we had winning seasons. Those defenses were on the field a lot and straight up won several games.

This year Aranda can dial up nasty shite knowing the other side of the ball is pretty damn good. I hope to see better production as season moves on.

The only issue with that statement as it refers to Saturday is that we led in TOP at the half. The 19 play drive on UT's 1st possession of the 2nd half and the fact that UT scored on every possession of the 2nd half is why TOP ended in their favor.

A less than stellar defensive performance in a win is not a bad thing. It allows the defense to re-focus and the coaches to make adjustments. Not a great analogy, but Bama offensively steamrolled everyone all season last year and the one game they struggled happened to be the NCG and they couldn't adjust. I think the adversity will make the D better going forward.

To the idiot downvoter of the statement above, please explain how 25 points and 250 totals yards of offense is so terrible to give up. When you do, please explain how it’s still terrible even though LSU was playing 6th string WRs at corner.

Thanks.

So what you’re saying is that while LSU led in TOP the defense held Texas in check and when Texas led in TOP they had success?

That’s kind of the point, no?

If we beat Alabama 17-3, the talk will be "what happened to our offense".
