Considering he is probably the closest to a one and done I'll ever see in track, I'd like to see him compete. Does anyone know when is the next home track meet?

I haven't been to a track meet in 30 years. Is there a way to have a rough guess on when he'll jump, or do I need to plan on spending all day out at Bernie Moore?

Because he can start competing on the European track circuit and make a bunch of money. Unless he get's badly injured he's basically got 20yrs of earnings max. Why waste 4 of those years for free? He can always get a college degree later on.

He could’ve done this last year without ever stepping foot on campus

I mean, don’t get me wrong, he very well could leave, but would seem like an interesting choice unless he just really wanted to hold the NCAA record

Why would he have to go to LSU first?

He could have competed in the Olympics at 15 and gone pro at any time.

Usain Bolt has been running on the circuit since he was 14.

It's a hard life and few become really wealthy.

Outdoor just got cranked up so maybe the big pole vaulting meets haven't gotten going yet.
I thought for sure he would have been at the Texas Relays though.

I'm sure he will head up to Penn Relays

Why would he not be? He’s a top pole vaulter in the world.

Aside of that, he’s got an endorsement deal that the clock is ticking on. I think they only allowed 1 year of school.

He already competes in Europe, he just can’t accept prize money. I believe he will be around a while longer. Pole vaulters peak in late 20’s so he’s got time and the money in track even with endorsements is good but not great. His family really like collegiate sports too.

Thanks for the info. I knew he was already one of the worlds best, but I thought the money was better for the pros- (So I guess hell stay longer)

He is already one of only 24 people to EVER jump 6 meters.

The plan is one-and-done. He isn’t competing much this spring because the World Championships are unusually late this year (October), so he’s trying to spread his efforts out. Expect him to compete in one home meet to get the Bernie Moore record, then SECs and NCAAs.

As for why he chose to come to LSU at all—it’s important to him to compete at the same school as his parents and brothers and get all of the applicable records. One of his goals is to attain every possible record. He already has world junior, US high school, American, European, and NCAA indoor. All that’s left is LSU outdoor and world indoor/outdoor.

I watched him in high school meets since my daughter runs and when he was vaulting the rest of the meet would just stop and watch. It’s pretty damn impressive when you are just off to the side watching.

Damm dude. Do you not know how to go to lsusports.net and select Track & Field to view the schedule? Just in case you don’t, here is the link to it.

Really hoping we can get Mondo for one more season. Most of our points will be coming back and certainly could win it all this season

Come to Austin in June for Nationals. The tickets are 130 for the event. That freshman sprinter may be the freshman of the year unless he shatters the record or approaches 20’. I’m going out on a limb and saying she runs a 10.78.

I appreciate the help, but there are several dates. I was told he doesn’t jump at all events. Also, no times of events are listed. As a guy who hasn’t been to a track meet in over 30 years, I’d rather not spend 2 days on the hope he may jump that day.

I’d kind of like to tell people in 1-5 years, when he sets the world record, that I saw him jump at LSU.
