Can someone explain how he competes for Sweden?

I'll hang up and listen.

I think he was born in the US. It's the same loop hole that allows our soccer team to be filled with European players.

What would cause a person who has lived in the US their whole life to compete for another country?

Some of these soccer players wouldn't play on their real home countries team but he would obviously.

If he was good enough to compete in Olympics for USA he would. Not meant as a jab, kid is young.

I think I read that Sweden invests more into pole vaulting than the US

Scandinavian countries care far more about field sports than the US. It's not even close. The best throwers and jumpers are able to actually make a living there.

Check out the kids stats. I think the US would be more than happy to have him. He is the top ranked pole vaulter under 20 and I believe he is only 16 or 17.

His father was a phenomenal pole vaulter as well. For context, his best is roughly 5 feet higher than most quality high school vaulters.

Except he's the best teenage pole vaulter on the planet...

Have you see the women in Sweden? Mondo knows what he's doing.

Mother is Swedish and he has dual citizenship. Sweden does not have a Qualifying competition like the US so he is gauranteed to get in the Olympics. This he has more opportunity to win more medals at an earlier age.
Smart move and who fricking cares about what country he lives in.

This kid will not sniff college until he is done professionally if his dad is smart.

He holds a World Junior record. His best is 5.5inches below the US all-time record at the age of 17. That vault is also the 199th best vault EVER. If you take out repeat performances there have only been 36 people to ever jump higher. In the last 11 years there has literally been 2 better jumps than him by an American. The kid is a stud and would certainly be a US Olympian if he even just maintained where he's at now.
