This is literally why he jumps for Sweden. Not the USA.

You can argue favorite LSU athlete all you want. But if we’re talking greatest?

He missed a great opportunity my not playing for USA Olympic team, he could have solidified his college status and university place in history but instead played for Sweden and lost lots of American support.

I thank him for everything but he doesn’t make my top 5 All LSU greatest.

No because no one gives af about pole vaulting. Olympics cool story but not an athletic accomplishment compared to literally any other sport ever.

I can understand that it's easier to make the Olympics competing for Sweden. But he was born in the US. He learned pole volting in the US. He made his choice. So I will never consider him LSU's greatest athlete. If he needs recognition for being the greatest pole volter, get it from Sweden.

IDGAF about track & field, but pretty sure his mom coached in Sweden + you’re an oversensitive pussnip.

“Greatest athlete” can have multiple meanings - if you’re talking about the most insane pure athletic ability, it’s Mathieu. Dude had a sixth sense.

But if you’re talking accomplishments, don’t overthink it. It’s Big Dick Joe.

The answer very well might be Mondo, but the number of world records is meaningless. He has set the world record in one track and field event. The reason he has 14 is because he gets paid for each one, otherwise he would only have two or three. His accomplishments are much better described by how far he has advanced the record and that his biggest jump is repeatable.

Imagine if the NFL kept separate records for indoor and outdoor. It makes sense in longer races because the turns are more of a factor, but in straight sprints, and events like pole vaulting it’s a little silly.

Objectively and without any credible argument to the contrary, Mondo is the most accomplished and recognized former LSU athlete on the world stage.

In poke vaulting , the wind outdoors plays a big factor. It can help you or hurt your performance. Same with all events including sprints , long jump, high jump etc. Then factor in heat , rain, cold and outdoors is a different animal. Sprinting indoors can even be a different distance than outdoors The NFL is about winning the game, stats are just a byproduct that are not the main goal of players .....or it wasn't originally a main goal.

In track...yes. Not in basketball, football or baseball. It is all subjective.
