Great for him… it does grind me that he will never compete for the US. I get it it’s a qualifying thing but at what point do you say the guys obviously qualified just give him a spot

It's not a qualifying thing. He's the best in the world by a mile and wouldn't have been at any risk of failing to qualify for the US. That's just some poorly thought out manufactured excuse to help with the understandable shite that comes his way for betraying the people and the country that supported him his entire life.

"Poorly thought & manufactured excuse..."? He was traveling to his mother's home every summer to visit & spend time with his grandparents since he was a kid. He's been speaking Swedish ever since he was a kid. As for no risk, every American Olympian has been complaining about the USOC's qualifying policy for decades. One trip, bad vault & he doesn't qualify. And has to wait another 4 years. Interesting note that no U.S.. Olympian has ever criticized his decision. On his last vault for the Olympic & Gold Medal, the American vaulter can be seen in the background clapping & jumping up & down in celebration.
