nice. kilimanjaro is relatively easy though huh?

It is. I attempted it twice first time I tried was the first time I have ever got altitude sickness. I got High Altitude Cerebral Edema and threw up blood and bile 40+ times in two hours. Started hallucinating, got rushed down the mountain and almost died. Scariest day of my life.

2nd time I attempted, I reached the summit very easily.

Cool as long as there are hotels with bars and restaurants along the way I would do it. If you have to sleep in a tent and fight lions off for your food, there is NO way.

You have to sleep in huts with other people. No hotels along the way.

Did Dale Brown give her a motivational speech while she was at the peak?

And did he find Johnny Big Foot up there and sign him up as a power forward?

I miss Dale.

I did it and it is one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. Only about 50% of those who try get to Uhuru Peak, and keep in mind that most people who try aren't exactly couch potatoes.

Altitude is the biggest problem, 19000 feet is no joke. It's more than just having to breathe hard all the time, you feel drained, can't sleep well at a minimum. Pounding headaches and nausea are common. It's roughly like having a bad hangover that won't go away. As others have noted, it can kill you if you push it, cerebral edema and pulmonary edema kill a couple dozen every year.

The way to get around this is to really take your time. If you take ten days it's much easier than if you do it in 5 or 6, which is much more common. The summit rate for ten day trekkers is closer to 85%.

Mo was able to do that but you weren't! Is that what you are trying to point out?

Only on the popular routes. Most of the others have no huts, you sleep in a tent and use outhouses. No bathing the entire week.

My route was Western Breach via the Shira Plateau. Funny thing about the outhouses is that once you get above 12000 feet they don't stink b/c you're in an outdoor refrigerator/freezer day and night.

First Person in a Wheelchair Climb to Kilimanjaro
28-year-old Erica Davis of Carlsbad, CA is believed to be the first paralyzed woman to ascend Kili, arriving on the summit in her wheelchair in January of 2010.

There are videos of this (google her), she was basically carried up the whole way. She was at the top but she did not by any means climb it in her wheelchair.

Good for her... but not very difficult. We skipped a couple aclimitization days and climbed up and back down in 5 days. The worst part for us was the trip back to bottom on 5th day after we summitted.... We started from highest camp (around 15,500 ft) around midnight on our hike to summit... After a short break, we hiked all the way down and finished the hike from jungle in pitch black well after 10pm same night. I think it was just under 40 miles that we hiked altogether that day (midnight till 1030pm). AHHHH, GOOD TIMES!
