Your reply was about Anthony Murphy, the 19 yo California HS signee who was drafted by the Nationals in the 16th round, right?
You're saying he's more likely to sign with the Nationals because he is someone who will be draft eligible after 2 years at LSU? Seems like that'd be a reason to come to LSU. I don't follow.

He's not a guaranteed starter like Curiel was, where he would show up, play a ton for two seasons and get drafted really high.

Everything I read about him seemed like he really wanted to sign a pro deal. Being a DES, his mind frame might be, 2 years and jet. At LSU, he probably would not start as a freshman and year two would have some competition also. Seems likely he signs a deal or does like CJ Weinstein and goes to another school. CJ was also a DES.

If Santarelli doesn't have major strikeout issues, I think he'll get some PT this year, definitely in midweek games. Is he immediately the most powerful guy at the plate on this roster? His exit velos with wood were incredible at that pro showcase thing a couple weeks back.

This kid had 7 balls north of 114 mph exit velo with a wood bat a few weeks ago in BP.
Not sure Bide has that, but I'm not knocking him. That's elite power.

Same question here. If he was this easy to sign, why wasn’t he drafted early way under slot? And why did the Nationals wait until round 16 to draft a seemingly talented player cheap and risk another team getting him? No other team realized they could get a similar deal?

we've never seen anyone at lsu that hits balls 114 with a wood bat . the highest I can remember is probably jones around that same ev but thats with aluminum. im curious what a aluminum bat adds to exit velocities..ill google it.
eta. santarelli shows more top end exit velocity potential than jared jones ,serna,and arrambide. where jones stands out is average exit velocity, 4th highest in the country in 2025. he doesn't miss the barrell very much at all when he makes contact. in order its santarelli at about 118 max then Jones at around 116 then serna around 115 then arrambide at about 114 max . jones averages about 6 more mph exit velocity on average than serna and arrambide . jones averaged like 95.
for comparison aaron judge and Giancarlo Stanton are still on another planet than anyone else we've discussed. google seems to think with legal college aluminum bats that judge could max out at 124 ,with the old aluminum bats google says he could go as high as 138 lol . they say Stanton could possibly hit it 142 which is just stupid ..with our bats today he may hit 127 or possibly higher.
so Stanton is thought to have the most power in the history of baseball , without peds. not sure about McGuire on juice.

record for exit velocity in mlb history is O'Neil Cruz at 122.9 . probably converts to 130 plus with college bats and 140 plus with old college bats
