Nebraska seemed like a good fit but doesn't appear they'll be firing Mike Riley this year.

NC ST, Kentucky. He would do well at a basketball school like Cuttcliff. In the ACC he would do well.

I see two paths forward for him.

1) He takes Courso's spot on gameday

2) He goes to Penn State

It would be stupid for him at this point to say he doesn't want to coach again. But I'll be surprised if he does. I think in the end, he is done. He's 62... does he really wan to go start over somewhere else?

I doubt he takes a HC job.

Miles said he still wants to coach, with the right situation. Well I can guarantee his name is going to come up in a lot of coaching searches. Everyone knows how competitive the SEC west is and the pressure it takes to succeed in our division and Miles has accomplished a lot in his tenure at LSU. Schools know that he runs a clean program and his character is above reproach and school admins absolutely LOVE that. No his name is going to be a very hot name on the market and I will be very happy for him when that happens, I truly do want to see him succeed at his next gig.

If he does then the buyout will be much less for LSU.

And that is also a big reason I am glad he will be such a hot commodity not only because I am rooting for him and want to see him succeed, but because that also helps LSU out big time.

I think he will do some tv stuff and take it easy.

He was pretty emphatic that he wants to coach again, I see him doing that if the right gig is offered which I believe it will be. Until then though I definitely see him breaking in the business with ESPN which would be interesting.

Nebraska would be also and I thought of it too, it is the right division in the Big 10 he would probably win it every year and he could play his style of football there and big successful in the Big 10. But like you pointed out with Riley's success there I don't see that happening but it would be a great gig for Miles if something were to happen.

K-State, Penn St and Nebraska all good fits for Miles

I agree, but I also feel he truly does want to coach again.

I think he is a "young" 62 and seeing his personality over the past 11years I think he truly does like a challenge and he probably wants to coach until he is 70 so I think it happens.

A good friend mentioned the Penn State message boards are clamoring for Miles to replace Franklin.

Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

I firmly believe he will be coaching somewhere in the next 2 years!!! I honestly think he will be coaching somewhere next year. As one poster put it, Franklin is probably done at Penn State and you better believe they would love to get Miles so I feel they would go after him big time if they let Franklin go.

I also still feel K-State would be a great fit for Miles if it is Schneider's last year which that is a big rumor.

Yep also his son Ben is committed to Nebraska so that would be a perfect fit. Nebraska has an easy schedule with Wisconsin and Ohio State being the only tough teams on their schedule. They should hit 10 wins this year. So barring a total meltdown that job won't be open. Perhaps in a recruiting role? They sure could use his Louisiana ties. Then, when Riley DOES step down (he's no young pup), Miles could just take over.

And you can bet that admin at Penn State would go after Miles hard and I feel he would take the job if offered. He can run his scheme of offense their and you won't get a lot of push back. And Miles isn't afraid of a challenge and the Big 10 east is definitely a challenge now with the success of Ohio St and Mich-Mich St so I can see him liking that scenario.

K-State is gonna hire Venables as their next HC. I do like Les at a lower-tier Big 12 school though. Could see him at Iowa St or Kansas.

I really like K-State, they are probably in my top 5 favorite teams. I like the look of their uniforms, like the coach, respect what he's done there, and like pulling for the underdog they generally are. But you guys seem to overestimate their football tradition. Outside of Bill Snyder's run there in the 90s-early 00s, they have always been a bottom feeder. Both Iowa St. and Kansas hold the edge in the series record. Hell, surprisingly the only series they lead in the Big XII are against Texas, West Virginia, and Baylor.

Miles could probably do well there, but again he would be following the "man" like he followed Saban here. Also, that's a tough place at which to recruit. Kansas doesn't have a good recruiting base as it is, and the winters are rough. Snyder built his success upon scheduling cupcakes and recruiting JUCO players who could come in and contribute immediately.

Are you thinking of Bill Schneider when you say that because Miles and Riley are basically the same age Miles is 62 "63 in November"/ Riley is 63!!! There is 4months difference in their ages!!!! And Riley, like Miles, is a young 63 he is probably going to coach until he is 70 or gets run from Nebraska.

Penn State would be a good fit. I am just not sure that CLM has the WANT to coach against Michigan

same here. imo, miles is kind of burned out. his kids are graduating from college in the next few years and it's time to kick back with a beer. do a TV gig for awhile. travel, etc. he's earned it and he most certainly can afford it.

I could see Les being hired on at Michigan as an O line consultant.
I can tell you never watch LSU play. Oline is the only position consistently as bad as qb.

That is a great point!!

He probably thinks long and hard regarding that, if the Penn State job opens up. But if the job does open up, and it looks like that could be a reality, you know Penn State is going to go after Miles really hard. I actually feel he would take the job if the rumors were true that Miles was actually never offered the job to coach Michigan. As much as he loves Michigan you might be right maybe that would be too much for him to stomach to have to coach against them every year.

Dunno if you have watched Tulane, but Fritz is making chicken salad out of chicken shite. If/when he gets a few 3 stars, he will have a legit (legit AAC) team. The triple option is the great equalizer and he has done a great job on defense.

Baylor could be good fit for him. They want a quality coach after the dumpster fire Briles left. The could get him a young, up and comer as OC who would take over in a year or two after he stabilizes the program.
