Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp,
Dare its deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Spencer Hall on Mike VI: LINK

quote:

Mike was a good cat. Seriously, there have been grumpy Mikes, and Mikes clearly not happy about being a large cat living in captivity. There have been Mikes who, for lack of a better word, have been described as “dicks”. Anyone who has ever lived with a cat is nodding in recognition of this possibility.

But Mike VI liked people. He was born in captivity in Indiana. He was raised by humans, and slept in a house with humans until he was three or four months old, and became too large to be trusted around humans. (Because we’re prey—prey Mike might have loved and adored, but would also eat, because: Tiger.)

quote:

To wit: The one promise his keeper in Indiana wanted before handing him over to LSU was that Mike would not be forced into the cage to be driven around Tiger Stadium. LSU agreed. The rule was: if Mike didn’t want to go into the cage, then he didn’t go into the cage. Note that wording there, and ponder the mystery of human affection at its strangest: Not it, but him.

My "baby" girl was born Aug 26, 2005...in Houston although I'm from "back home". VI is the only Mike she's ever known and loved....at least we made a recent trip so we could all Vist a last time....God Bless.

Sad news to see. I was really hoping to see him one last time. At least he won't be suffering.

Same here. I'm going to the Ole Miss game for my first game of the season and was hoping I'd get to say goodbye

I agree with putting him down gracefully and humanely. LSU is one of the best DVM schools period and if you still think popping a cap in our mascot is the way to go then go buttercup yourself and your boyfriends. BTW 10 yrs prior svcs Army Ranger sweetheart.

You, sir, are a total moron.

We have one of the best DVM schools in the nation. And you want them to shoot the mascot? And then get another one?

WTF are you thinking? Some people don't want us to get another live mascot at all and you want to just shoot the sick mascot (and potentially make him suffer) instead of humanely euthanizing it?

FFS.

Mike VI, as the physical embodiment of the spirit of Louisiana State University (and the People of Louisiana), as a source of delight and wonder for our young children, as a source of education about the importance of preserving endangered life on this planet, and as a source of inspiration and courage for ALL until your final breath...

THANK YOU

I also want to thank the entire Staff, whose care and commitment to Mike VI resulted in arguably the most beloved tiger in our school's history. I know you're all grieving too with us but THANK YOU for everything you've done...consistently and with the highest degree of ethics.

When the appropriate time comes, I have every confidence in the system you've created there, and the spirit of LSU will shine on.

God Bless Mike VI and Tiger Nation
