Yes... this was not a hold... SEC ref had not thrown his flag in a while and the timer went off.

Bottom line is it shouldn’t have been called and was a 1st down.

Are you kidding me, he tackled the guy about to blow up the play. May have been one of the most obvious holds i've ever seen.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t watch the same game as some people.

It was definitely a hold and if it doesn’t happen the guy definitely gets to Bramblett and LSU doesn’t get the first down.

He definitely held and basically tackled the dude. Who knows though maybe the tackler slips on the crappy turf or Bramblett stiff arms his arse and gets the first. LOL

I thought Taylor false start save LSU and made them punt. Then the fake punt. That was some Mike Leach coaching there.

No he didn’t
He engaged and when it couldn’t block without holding he disengaged. At no point was that a hold. It was a clean play that resulted in a first down and then an absolutely horrendous call.

Take off the homer glasses. Jones tackled him from behind...on purpose. If he doesn't, Bramlett is stopped short. Even with the hold Bramlett only picked up the first down by a yard.

The entire sequence was questionable decision making by Kelly. Remember, he tried to go for 4th and 1 from his own 24 that was blown dead because of a false start. The play was a read option that Daniels pulled. Before the play was blown dead two Arkansas defenders read it well. Maybe Daniels makes them miss just enough to get the yard he needed. But it's not like LSU had Arkansas fooled on the play.

Two LSU penalties stopped Arkansas from likely getting the ball deep in LSU territory. At worst, Arkansas probably gets 3 points if they get the ball back. Considering the final score was 13-10 that was a pretty damn important 3 points.

Kelly also had a very questionable decision when he tried to go for a 4th and 4 from the Arkansas 6. The played was stopped because of Boutte's false start...which forced LSU to kick the FG. Again, another big 3 points.

BK has been great this season overall. NO ONE will deny that. But even without the benefit of hindsight it was very reasonable to question those decisions. Just like it was on some of the 4th down decisions he made against Tennessee. It is not unreasonable to consider that LSU's "incompetence" (3 penalties on 3 plays) MAY have saved them from a loss.

OP claiming that if Penn didn’t illegally hold the defender, said defender would have tackled the ball carrier before he made the first down.

He was still blocking him

Now if he had whiffed, maybe yes.

Looks to me like he held his block and the guy dove, ref just saw him going down and made an assumption.

It was a very tight call

Lol the stuff I'm seeing on here...only reason I started the thread was to say MJJ made a smart play to commit a penalty in the midst of an oh shite moment.

Here is him reaching with outstretched arm, grabbing the defenders hand muffler and keeping him from making a play, not a bad call by the ref, but very much a roll of the dice from BK's part.

fake punt 2:23 mark

Not if Jones doesn't hold. That's the point.

I loved the 2 point conversion against Bama. That was a smart calculated move. Going for 4th down in the Arkansas game inside our own 25, with the way our defense was playing, was dumb. Even if we had made it, I wouldn't have agreed with it. We could barely move the ball, so had we failed and Arkansas scored, then we probably would've lost. I've never been happier to get a penalty. I was relieved when we got the false start, since I thought for sure we would punt it. When we faked the punt, I was again relieved for the penalty. Kelly seemed like a genius last week, and this week he seemed like a dunce.
