Just don't steal Mike Tyson's tiger and end up with a naked Oriental in your trunk

Drove to New Mexico in June. That was 13 hrs. A little over half way to Vegas. Drive out won’t be terrible. Drive home will suck balls.

Flights out of Houston are still reasonable. Not that you want to drive 4 hours for a flight but that drive to Vegas in the summer is brutal.

Do it!
I'll share a personal story. Have posted it here before.
Baton Rouge to Tempe. Just over 1,400 miles nonstop. Alternating driving with my then girlfriend (now wife) at the time. It took us just over 23 hours including fuel and car maintenance stops.
It was for LSU's "home game" in Arizona vs Arizona State. Game moved due to Katrina. I'd not missed a LSU game in years and was truly bummed about it being moved. Did not have tickets or means financially to even make the trip. Especially last minute.
Late morning on that Friday, my girlfriend suggests we just start driving and try to make it. I think to myself no way. Soon after we find ourselves on the road in her car with no tickets, barely any money, and in a car that literally needs to have oil added every few hundred miles due to a severe leak.
I had posted on a LSU site at the time about making the trip and being on the way. One fan responded with email address and said contact him. We did while on the way and he gave directions to his family tailgate.
After the long drive, we found free parking and made long walk to the tailgate. Upon arriving, we learned he'd married into an Arizona State family. They had box seats for the twenty or so of them and best of all gave us two free box seat tickets! It was my girlfriend and I, along with him as the only LSU fans in the box. The rest were Arizona State fans, mostly his wife's family.
Needless to say, when Early Doucet caught that touchdown pass late, I was literally running around like crazy in the box seating area and not making any friends.
What a trip! The drive back took way longer and the car barely made it. But we made it happen and I knew she was "the one".

You’re going to spend an additional $700+ in gas especially with elevation, food, oil change, etc. Gas in Nevada and some of those other states are over $5/gal 6+ in some areas. Might as well enjoy your 4 hour flight rather than be miserable for 3-4 days of driving.

Do it.
I'm already out here road tripping in my Jeep after I retired earlier this year. Then I find out my friend from BTR is gonna be there, party time!
I'll probably be around Flaggstaff the week before, but see you there!

We moved from Baton Rouge to Scottsdale back in 2016. We then would fly back twice a year to visit. However, after the China virus hit we bought a hybrid van and started driving. What we do is stop every 3 hours to stretch and walk around, just sort of refocus. We do it in 2 days. Last year we actually drove from Scottsdale to Destin, Florida. We did that in 2 days. But again I can't emphasize enough how important it is to stop often and exercise a bit. Yall can definitely do this.

Direct flight out of Shreveport round trip is like $500 on Allegiant.

Cheapest round trip tickets from Baton Rouge to Phoenix on American are $366 with plenty of other round trip tickets under $500. Flying out on Thursday and returning Tuesday. Rent the car in Phoenix and drive to Vegas (286 miles).
Cheapest out of NO is $221 on Spirit Airlines with many round trip flights from $300 to $500.
(info from Travelocity.com)
ETA: Also try looking at non-stop into LAX from NO (4 hr flight) and taking the under $100 r/t on Spirit/Frontier from LAX to Vegas. Found some combination of flights that would cost around $300 total to round trip NO to Vegas. Also check SJC (San Jose, CA).only problem no non-stop flights NO to SJC.

I would parachute out of crop duster before I would drive 25 hours. Only Heaven and 1991 Brittney Spears would I drive that far for.

Great drive from TX to NV as very mountainous and scenic. Probably not as bad with another driver.
Wife and I drove from Santa Fe to central MS for Christmas 2 years ago with dogs and I drove 90% of the time as she is a crappy driver. I have driven across TX multiple times, the views are quite meh. OP, if you do drive it is a much better drive on TX state highways. We drove state highways from east TX N and then west to I-40. I don't think you will enjoy it on such a restrictive schedule.
