It perpetually feels like next year is the year and I miss my childhood when LSU consistently was in the cream of the crop.
You are just incorrect and looking through purple and gold glasses here. I went back and did an average of wins and losses since 2000 leaving out the COVID season for another thread earlier today. We have an average of 9.8 wins and 3 losses.
We have only had multiple 10+ win seasons in a row 4 times (4, 3 and 2 twice), so we have never sustained “elite” success and have never been championship-worthy beyond a single season at a time.
When people keep bringing up program standards and where the program has been- this is it. We are consistently good, but only occasionally great. Yes, Miles had two good stretches, but he ruined what could have been the best season in LSU history up to that point with some terrible management of a title shot, and then he fell off that pace. But more importantly, Miles absolutely REFUSED to adapt and change to a sport that was leaving him behind. Say what you want about the hires that have been made since, but Miles made his own bed and absolutely deserved to be fired.
As for right now, we hit the recent program average for wins in 22 and 23 and were one off the pace last year, and that should be disappointing. It’s time for Kelly to have an above average season and bring us a run at a title, but anyone thinking the last three years have been some massive step down, especially on the heels of where O left things at the end of his tenure, is either biased or just doesn’t know football or this program’s history.

If he doesn't make the Polian hire and fire an amazing special teams coach then he likely wins the opener vs FSU in New Orleans.
If he doesn’t make the Polian hire, we likely don’t have the portal class that completely saved our arse that season. That was him. It was just a mistake making him an on-field coach, but the rules for analysts weren’t as lax then as they are now.

Well Panama Pete, your pain is about to end. This year!

What has been 7 months? Since we were ranked in top 10. Let’s worry about where we finish. What did we finish ranked last year?

How many schools have more national titles than LSU this century?

Only team clearly more successful in last 25 years is Bama.....

I agree with all of your post in this thread. We should not just be in the playoffs every season, we should be the team playing for a championship more often than not! That's a winners attitude.

As long as it’s just about money right now we’re in trouble. We’re just a poor state like it or not and I don’t but it’s the truth.

I just don't want to become one of those schools that merely accepts mediocrity as the new norm and expectation :/
MA = Mediocrity Acceptor aka Pump Lump (LSU version of a Gump) Cheerleader...........

Agreed. He has the pieces, if he fails to deliver I'm not sure he'll ever deliver.
Literally this roster is the exact reason he took the LSU job. This is a title contending roster with athletes everywhere on both sides of the football. Don’t think Kelly has had a roster this talented on paper in his entire career. Even his best notre dame teams didn’t have this amount of dudes on both sides of the ball. Time for BK to deliver this year he talked a big game at the end of the year when he told the media they’re keeping receipts and we’ll see them in the national championship. He backed it up with a strong offseason. Time to deliver on the field

Man go be an Arkansas or Ole miss fan with a comment like that.
Yes LSU pays and strives for excellence, championships and being in the hunt most years. Not just being ok with a revolving door of 8-4/9-3 seasons like the Arkansas and Ole Miss programs are fine with.

Don’t speak on the legacy of LSU football.
I bought my first PlayStation as a grown arse man just so I could play NCAA 2003. I can recount fond memories dating back to 97.
Not trying to sugar coat the pain and misery associated with it but you always liked to brag about being new to it

I’m one of the youngest boomers, and I’m 63. We are off the stage pal; y’all are running things. Jeff Landry is not a boomer. Neither is Bobby Jindal.
I’m going to enjoy my retirement years just watching y’all fix things.
ETA: Other than whining about how tough boomers have made life for you, I agreed with the rest of your post.

It’s painful to admit it but I don’t think BK is it. Could be wandering the wilderness for a long time here.

Texas is spending millions and millions on its football roster. NIL is altering the landscape of college sports, including football.
NIL operates to the detriment of the sports and of the fans who have supported these sports for decades. It will never be the same for some schools.

I expect more from Brian Kelly, but I also appreciate what the program currently is and every single win we get. LSU would have killed for this kind of success back then.
BK has really done a number on yall. Apathy has set in.

Screw NIL sports! The SEC has done damn nigh all it can do to f uck up collegiate sports! A POX on all those bastards!

Yet the coach that gave us most of those top 10 finishes is universally hated by our fanbase.

I just get tired of the “we just need to fix ____ then we’re a contender” then by next season, it’s something else. It’s whack-a-mole U.
