Clearly, the guys statement is that he is not good enough to be a QUALITY SEC starter. That’s a pretty big difference vs calling someone an SEC starting caliber player because they simply started games in the SEC. Mississippi State had 22 guys who were SEC starters that went 2-10 last season. Would you like to have those guys on the team?
Chester would be a starting guard or center at more than half the teams in the SEC. I know nothing about the OL at Miss St. they may have been good.

“SEC caliber”. Is fine in the recruiting phase. But in the describing of players not only on scholarship , but have started? It is dumb

I’m glad Chester had the chance to play guard, but it really seemed like many of the issues were stemming from him.

Specifically the same issues as last year - getting blown into the backfield.

Hopefully he can figure it out in the future.

That being said, Mubenga really started to come on after a few starts under his belt last year.

Center and guard play is a mental game as much as a physical game. Center often has to be the second smartest guy on the team behind qb. And guards have to really understand what’s going on too with the blocking schemes. I think Echols could eventually become a starter at guard because of his pure strength if it starts to click mentally but it’s clear they like Mubenga better now.

Might be prudent to keep Chester in reserve to spell Moore if needed.

That’s what they are doing. Chester is the 2nd team center but took all the first team reps yesterday while Moore was on light duty.

Let’s hope he’s not needed though because there is a big drop off between him and Moore.

Our hyped O-Line last year absolutely sucked at run blocking. I’ll take a bunch of unprovens before overhyped “All-Americans”.

Mubenga struggled at first but then played better down the stretch last year.

what? He was our worst lineman last season and got absolutely demolished by Alabama. Chester was terrible too. Hope Mubenga turns it around, but I don’t see it. And him and Adams had the lowest rankings of the oline vs Baylor. He showed 0 improvement.

I’m not sold that Davis is locked up RT so we may see Curne come in there

Seems like yall also are forgetting Davis was also a 5 star kid in HS. He’s a freak athlete and arguably the best mover out of anyone in the tackle room. That’s a damn good player if the technique catches up to the athleticism. RG is the big concern not tackle

Mubenga played better towards end of last season. And having an inept Chester next to him didn’t help.

I just hope everybody is prepared for when Chester trots out first series against Clemson. I think some are not prepared.

Don’t think Chester starts. By all accounts mubanga and Echols are in front of him for the left guard spot rn

While he improved he went from horse shite to dog shite. Slightly smaller and maybe less smelly but still shite.

When Delli was injured last season they ALL looked like shite.

Zavion will start over Nic Anderson. Reliford will start over Payton. Keys will start over West Weeks.

If Mubenga is going to start at LG …..

I sure hope he has improved greatly since we last saw him.

As in ….. I’m hoping he’s been eating steroids with Cheerios for breakfast !!!

Mubenga is the best athlete out the group battling for LG and has the most potential. Last year he wasn’t strong enough and his technique wasn’t what it needed to be. He should be much better this year.

Echols will be starting rest of the season by the 3rd drive
Or they'll be forced to put Bordelon in there, because at least he knows the plays, reads and assignments. (Even if he's not as "Athletic")

Same. The thing is, we have recruited OL in the past few years a lot better than before.
No we haven't. We've recruited "Stars" at the high school level. They're Kardell Thomas types that look overpowering in HS, then get to LSU and are "In Over Their Heads" both mentally and physically at this level of competition! (And are NOT up-coached by Coach Sylvester)

This. LSU has the horses. It just takes time to get ‘em working as a unit.

WR Brown isn't starting? If so, the second string WR group will be as good as the 1st string IMO. I hope Brown isn't nicked up.

I think it's time we have a realistic conversation about Brad Davis and his ability to develop an OL.. The man can recruit his arse off, no question about that. This is a make it or break it season for BD, IMO.
He hasn't recruited jack shite. He's brought in a bunch "Kardell Thomas" types that look great in HS, then are totally "In Over Their Heads" (Both Mentally and Physically) at LSU.

Sylvester Davis couldn't even get the OL to effectively run block with Campbell, Dellinger, Frazier and Jones starting.

And Sylvester is the one that threw away a scholarship on Chester after he was rejected by Georgia.

Hot Garbage OL Shite Show In-Coming unless Sloan can scheme us out of the shite pile a la Brady with Burrow.
