Payton beat out Reliford for the edge spot? Interesting. Thought everything we have seen so far, Reliford had locked down that spot.

In Ruffinos post scrimmage report, hes writing off Echols as not ready. Said he really struggled.

The line has me nervous

Truly feels like this o line is walking into a lions den. Just hope they can nut up and stand up to the physicality that Clemson front will bring cuz they absolutely will smell blood in the water playin a brand new o line that hasn’t started a game together

I feel like if they want the best 5 on the field together, they gotta let Curne compete at LG.

In the Oklahoma game, on back to back plays they went right through Mubenga and put pressure on Nuss.

Echols will be starting rest of the season by the 3rd drive

Why so high on Echols? I'm just asking

He had all camp to lock it down and couldn't separate himself from Mubenga.

This is where im at. I do think bk would play him if he was better. It appears neither are ready but that one is further along than the other, and has starting experience.

I think it's time we have a realistic conversation about Brad Davis and his ability to develop an OL.. The man can recruit his arse off, no question about that.

This is a make it or break it season for BD, IMO.

Loud hostile environment.

You are right about that!
I hope they have the simulation going at practice.

What happened to Bo Bordelon? 2nd string guard I’m assuming?

Looking at the receivers on that depth chart, and knowing the ones not listed…damn. If we give Nuss any time at all then the passing game should feast.

Hilton, Nick Anderson, and Aaron Anderson, with Trey’Dez at TE should be a nightmare. That’s a lot of length, speed, and skill

Why not Brian Kelly? Year 4 and this is our freaking OL? I was promised championships

Pyburn at one DE and Reliford at the other. Payton will play a lot and Butler will be in the mix as well. The front 4 has a legit 2 deep that LSU hasn’t had in quite sometime. Throw in Washington, Mitchell, Cobbins and some true freshman, it’s a deep and talented room which is a pleasant change from years past.

Mubenga ended the year with an average PFF score of 46. In the Texas Bowl, he improved from the worst on the team to the 5th worst with a 55 grade.

It’s always possible people develop and get a lot better, but he was so bad at everything, it’s hard to see that happening in one offseason. We are in peak offseason for people in this thread to suddenly start taking themselves into thinking he was starting to play well as the year went on

"I was promised championships."

By whom? When?

Calm down. Too early to melt.

Mubenga struggled at first but then played better down the stretch last year.

Guards look better when the center is solid. It was difficult to really assess the guard play because center play was usually really bad.

O-line is a unit. Tackles, because of the nature of where they play, can still shine on a mediocre or bad O-line. Guards have to be exceptional for that to happen. Good or even very good guards can look mediocre or even bad on a unit that does not function well together. That often goes back to the center.

Mubenga has some upside potential. The same may be true of Chester, but I'm afraid his previous troubles are in his head now, and he may be a lost cause or at least a project that needs more time. Echolls is a player I really don't feel like I have a good handle on.

We'll see how this plays out. I can't imagine the coaches would knowingly select anyone other than the player who provides the best outcome on the O-line.
