re: Max Johnson getting first team reps at QB

quote:"Tubby" (That's my new nickname for Myles) has all that you want, but Maximus has quicker feet and better "Pocket Mobility."
Hope Brennan sticks it out but Max does seem to have it all. Not that Brennan played bad before the injury but this offense definitely had another gear and Max has three years left. His potential is very promising at this point
He's a better fit for the Offense, which apparently is returning to the 2019 Burrow Offense.
BTW, why the frick did it ever change one bit? Why do you change the greatest Offense in the history of college football?

Thought I read Garrett Nussmeier was not pleased with being a backup.. My thoughts were everyone waits their turn to start.
Best man plays, regardless of whether they were "loyal" and "waited their turn."

Because we had different players and no Spring Practice to get the new receivers comfortable in running their routes. No Helaire out of the backfield. Some running back has to make a big leap forward to make it work this season.
Joe couldn't have ran that offense without practicing from Spring until Fall, prior to the season.

No surprise. O knows he will never beat elite teams like Bama with Brennan as the starter. As Burrow showed, you have to have a qb who can make plays with his legs and Brennan is a statue.

I remember posting the day of the LSU/Ole Miss game that I thought MB’s job was under certain doubt, and that Max would probably get the nod and I got downvoted into oblivion.

I was better at any sport and position compared to Brennan. Only thing he has on me is height.

If only they had seen your potential

Brennan stinks....
Only played 3 games and had 1,112yds.

Obviously.... because that's why he got a scholarship and you didn't.
No, Myles doesn’t stink.
But this non-argument always does. Use your brain and come up with something better.

Brennan is still much better than Max
Based on...?

Hopefully Max has some packages
Do you also think “coach in waiting” is still a thing?

it's not even close overall.
Again, love to hear why. All about that arm strength I guess, huh?

Max seemed to have more control in the pocket, also.
MB had the yips...maybe with justification, but he did.

Is there a reason you didnt do the first 3 starts? Why not do brennans 3 games vs johnsons 5?
Or does that not work for your argument?

Haven't heard a peep about the Defense.
How is the new PC DC doing organizing and running the Defense the first few practices?
How is the new PC DC (Coaching Safety's) blending in with Corey Raymond? (Coaching Cornerbacks)
What has been base scheme so far or multiple?
Opinions on Baker and Carter coaching technique so far?

Because that is not an apples to apples comparison. Max did not start 3 games where he had the ball in his hands for all 4 QTRS of the 3 games, his other game reps were in backup to TJ. You can't compare Myles to Max using 3 starts as Max did not have "3 STARTS".
If you want compare Myles 3 starts, then compare his to TJ's first 3 starts.
So the only fair comparisons are Myles first 2 starts, vs. TJ's first 2 starts vs. Max's first two starts.
Now obviously, you can compare total stats as well if you want to get another perspective.

I’ll throw this out there
While neither played all star teams
Most of Max’s stats are from
A shootout against the Worst Defense in the Country (yea statistically Ole Miss is worse than Vandy in just about every way)
And he was mostly throwing crossing routes to Boutte who went HAM
You can’t knock Johnson for it. But I’m
Not crowing him either.

The biggest area of improvement for Johnson is downfield passing, some of his balls were nowhere close. He’s fine short and across the middle.

Agreed. I think That has to do with him setting his feet and getting his lower half into his throws.
I like His mobility, I like His decision making. I think That arm isn’t elite but it should be good enough with some polishing.
I thjnk TJ has a lot to like. People can shite on him all they want but he faced the real meat of the schedule when it comes to defenses.

I know you only have 2 games for Max to use. However Myles had great game in week 3 & 4. LSU and huge issues on offense in game 1 & 2 that hurt Myles numbers.
