It was a good night for the Tigers, indeed! Unfortunately, for me, it was not such an impressive night for my Braves, at least on paper. I wanted Espino at LSU, but I knew that wasn't happening, so I was counting on the Braves to snag him at 21. He was available, and he played high school ball right there in Georgia, and yet the Braves took... Braden Shewmake. Yee. Haw.

It's happening.

quote:

Mock MLB Drafts during the high school season projected Hampton, a Memphis University School outfielder, as a first-round draft pick. He and his family agreed prior to the draft on how much money it would take for him to skip college.

His father, Maurice Hampton Sr., felt that there wasn't enough money on the table to justify walking away from LSU. He discussed the offers with his son and a pair of advisers. They concluded that Maurice should go play in college.

Hampton said that he will report to LSU this month. He plans to play both football and baseball for the Tigers.

I hope it's true and there is a decent chance it is. That said, I've seen this way too many times. Kids use LSU as leverage for more money. He has LSU football and baseball to use as leverage.

I just wonder what sport takes the hit. Chad jones was a non factor in baseball & Jared Mitchell non factor in football. Playing both at a high level is insanely difficult especially at a place like LSU.

Edit: here is the point where you come in and post some kind of numbers to try to show Jones didn't do anything in college. If you say he "was a non factor" in baseball during the CWS run, then you just weren't watching though. Save yourself the time, because I know what you are trying to do and I'm not going to engage with your BS.

If this works out we will have a very inexperienced outfield next year minus Cabrera, but we will have some serious talent.
If our 3-4 young studs can stay healthy on the mound we might be a really dangerous club by the time these young infielders and outfielders have time to develop.

He pitched like 7 innings that year.
Other than that 8th inning in the cws, i cant think of another meaningful pitch he threw

brilliant outing in Game 3 of the CWS Finals versus Texas (June 24), firing 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits and recording no walks and two strikeouts ... also fired a scoreless inning in Game 1 of the CWS Finals versus Texas (June 22), allowing no hits with one strikeout ... made first career collegiate appearance on April 26 versus Auburn; recorded two strikeouts with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to help LSU post a 7-6 win over the Plainsmen ...fired a scoreless seventh inning at Arkansas (May 3) to preserve a one-run lead in an eventual 4-3 LSU win ...

Don't care what anybody points to. That was a very MEANINGFUL stretch. We may not have a national title without him, so I'll never say he was a "non factor" in baseball.

He may not have had quantity but the quality of that 94 mph slider was beautiful.

Why would an MLB team waste a draft pick on a guy that tweeted he was going to college just 10 minutes ago. Geeze, some of you need therapy.

Happens ever year, he has nothing to lose. Hope he comes but wouldn't be shocked if he goes pro.

Not exactly his fault, although he was still a good player for us. Do you remember our QBs his SO and JR year?
