At minimum, it would be nice for him to show more emotion on the sideline. You can’t watch your guy (Fountain) get hammered to floor with no foul called and say absolutely nothing to the officials. I’m not saying you need to be a raving lunatic and get a technical foul. But at least show your guys you are going to fight for them.
Totally agree. I like McMahon a lot, and it was a good hire taking everything into account. But it would be nice if he had a little more fire. Players often take on the personality of their coach and they could feed off more emotion.

Last night Florida did a decent (not great) job of contesting shots by Miller and KJ, while limiting Hannibal's driving lanes. To combat that LSU needed to find other scoring options and have some weaker shooter shoot above their averages. That didn't happen.

I’ll take it a step further, you need to get Ward and Wilkinson more minutes and Hayes should start. This gives you more length and athleticism and that’s what we are struggling with. Starting two 6’0” guards in this league is asking a lot. Also Ward and Wilkinsons length will help with rebounding. Since we aren’t a great 3 pt team we need to attack the paint, attack the glass, and get to the line…. That’s the formula to win
I concur 1000%

the entire 1st page was littered with accurate, intelligent observations..........and then there was your post.

Not sure there's any more tricks in the bag to fool anyone. The roster just sucks, bottom line.
Adam Miller would have been a great piece to last year's team but he's not a guard who can carry a roster full of guys who cant score (outside of KJ obviously). Teams can just lock him down behind the arc forcing tough shots and make everyone else try and beat them and KJ is the only player who can really do that.
We've got 3 guys who were bench players from NC State, Mississippi St and Murray St playing over 20 minutes a game for us this season. Kind of a red flag right there.
And they are all playing better than Miller

I don't know if it would have been enough to win, but considering he is one of only 3 guys you have to the team with a positive offensive +/- rating (the others being KJ and Fountain) he probably would have helped a lot. Hill was really struggling and J. Williams was as well. You could tell McMahon was desperate to find some way to account for it, but he had nowhere to turn. From a raw numbers standpoint he doesn't exceed Miller's production, but over 1/2 through the season it is pretty clear he is one of your 3-4 most important players. If you are a believer in the advanced metrics, it's KJ, Fountain, Hayes...then a pretty significant drop-off after that.

Miller is the only scorer of the entire group of guards, this is why they are trying to have him play this hero role of sorts among them and it's out of his element.
He is a spot up 3 point shooter who could be a deadly weapon if kept that way (still fill up a stat sheet with 3's) and forgotten about by other teams more often, but other teams know to just stick their best defender on him and we still cant do anything offensively really outside of KJ making things happen.
Miller would have been incredible on last year's team because you had to worry about multiple guys at guard AND 2 forwards who could fill it up any night. You dont have to worry about any of the guards on this team outside of Miller. Trae Hannibal is a 1 trick pony, just stick a guy willing to take a charge in the lane and he's toast. Justice Williams has taken the tiniest step of progression from last year and is still mostly irrelevant. Justice Hill is basically an old school safe small PG who is terrible from the floor shooting anywhere on offense. Cam Hayes would be a good piece off the bench like he was at NC State but we want him to be more than that here because what else do we have, simply not a guy thats going to give a consistent 30+ minutes of good basketball for you each game.

McMahon looks like he’s way out of his depth. Any decent coach at the HS level can adopt and teach good Xs and Os but as you move up in competition it’s about matchups and shaving everything from bad possessions and turnovers to wasted time and opportunities. McMahon is way behind on the crucial aspects of big time college basketball, he’s still coaching like he’s in the OVC.

Miler is playing the most minutes and is 8th on the team in 3pt shooting percentage. Hill and Justice Williams are the only ones worse. He also has shot twice as many as the next most. At some point McMahon needs to tell him to quit shooting. And he has 2nd most turnovers. Facts are Miller is hurting more than he is helping.

Miller is better than he's played. I believe CMM knows this and sees it in practice. It just hasn't translated during the games lately. Also, we have NOBODY that can replace his shooting minus maybe Hayes and he was hurt.
I believe CMM also believe Hill is better and it's why he sticks with him. Although before last night he was getting less time, but with Hayes out he was forced to play more.
J Williams just can shoot. He needs driving lanes to score. Somewhat similar to Hannibal, thus both of them on the floor is pretty bad.
Would love to see Ward keep improving as he has a nice stroke, but looks lost.
I also see talent in Reed it just hasn't shown itself yet.
I believe this team has 1 guy (KJ) that is a starter in the SEC and a bunch of filler after.
Let's see how they progress. I expect a rough next few games and hopefully they figure some things out along the way.
Bottom line, this team can't keep having the live ball turnovers they've had the last 2 games and beat anyone. Not when we shoot like we do.

If it took five conference games to "figure" LSU out then we're in bigger trouble than any of you know.

All dependent on actually making the shots. This statement is false though.
MM is a much better x's and o's coach than WW.

This is all because of the role he is being forced to play. Again, he gets the other teams best defender thrown at him each game to cause him issues from the 3 point line, but because we dont have anyone else on the team to hurt you except KJ Williams teams can easily get away with this.
Miller is not a guy who will take over games but he's being forced into that role as a shot taker because there's no one else with any sort of good offensive output. It's great to be an efficient offensive player but if you're averaging 5-6-7 points a game you're just a role player. You gotta have guys who can take over and we have nobody who can and Miller is only thing close to that but has almost no support outside of KJ. At thevery best a couple other guys have flashed but hats it. Hill is not an offensive guy. Justice doesnt add much. Hayes you can tell why he was a bench guy not a starter as his minutes went up his efficiency went way down. Hannibal is a 1 trick pony on offense with his driving and thats it.
You gotta have some dudes and we just dont have any. Like I said, Miller would have been amazing on last years team because you had 2 legit big guys in Days and Eason who can roll it up on you and we had 3 other guards who you couldnt sleep on any of them. Teams wouldnt just be able to throw their best defender on Miller last year and basically not worry about much else like they can this year.

I was very encouraged by Ward's showing last night. The talent is apparent. Not sure what to think about Miller, I keep waiting and hoping it's not all year, as I've seen two or three flashes, but we're halfway done, so.....

Mwani is a good shooter, but he needs to be more quito shoot. Ward looked promising. Fountain should also be asked to score more, but he has to play smarter. So KJ, Fountain, Mwani, Hayes, and Miller should be the starters, with Hannibal, Coleman, and Reed coming off the bench. Justice Williams, Phillips and Hill can provide a few minutes. All of the starters shoot well, and give us better length, so I think that’s our best rotation.
