Mathieu VS Simon

I know, I know, we are all in love with #14 right now. And, honestly, he's even my new favorite tiger.
But, am I the only person who thinks T. Simon may actually be the one taking the starting job PP left behind, with TM keeping his role as nickel back and blitzer off the corner?
My reason for asking is that Simon (who looked good in very limited action this year) is a bigger more prototypical corner who may be better able to go man to man with the big WRs in the SEC. And TM was an absolute beast in his role this year, don't see a real reason to change it.
PS: before folks get all pissy, this is not meant to be a slight on TM. Just a question as to what role may suit him and the team better.

isnt he like 6'3? i thought we recruited him as a safety out of high school. you better have some really fluid hips to play corner at that height.

He played it pretty well vs Alamama and aTm

This has been brought up several times. I think Tyrann should start at CB but slide to the nickel in nickel and dime packages. JMO

Simon looked really good in the action he saw this past season. He played a lot in the Cotton and looked really good. He is bigger and should be a starting corner, Nothing against 14 but I like Simon on the outside maned up better. Also Loston and Reid more than likely have the safety spots locked up.

I like both of those, but a healthy Brandon Taylor should and likely will start.
Don't forget, it wasn't till after his injury that the pass defense went to shite.

We basically played a 4-2-5 as the base defense this season bc of Tyrann's playmaking and Francois' lack thereof

nope. I think the same!

I agree. TM is too short to be a starting corner - let him roam.

I think it will be that way.

I agree BUT people will bring up that TM was a freshman all-american, and rivals #1 rated cover corner. I've seen too many comparisons to PP when they played totally different roles this year.

Simon played physical against Bama's Jones.

See Grimes...size don't matter!

There is no way Mathieu lives up to the hype he will have from Tiger fans next year....no way in hell.

If his performance wasn't a fluke--and it actually didn't look like it was--then he's as big of a freak as PP7 is

I agree. I think Simon is better suited to take over for PP7 at corner. Mathieu is a force where he is now.

definitely i would love to see TM at the nickle where he was this year; he did get burned a couple of times this season on big plays. although i have to say he's my favorite tiger hands down.

I completely agree, keeping him in the nickle is a solid idea for next season. If we put him at the #2 corner spot, I don't think he'll be as affective and we need him as the "freak" athlete on some pages.

mathieu must be on the field as much as possible. it may be hard for him to live up to the hype, but his awareness is on another level. looks like eric berry out there....really incredible.
i do like simon in press and man coverages. he has great size and is very physical.
