My Northwest article

quote:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The man accused of fatally shooting an LSU basketball player has had his bail reduced by more than half so he can participate in certain programs. News outlets report a judge cut 20-year-old Dyteon Simpson’s bail from $350,000 to $149,000 on Monday. The change allows Simpson to go through Baton Rouge Parish Prison programs not offered to anyone with bails greater than $150,000. Judge Donald Johnson says if anyone attempts to bail out Simpson, another court date would be set and evidence would be presented.

It makes him eligible for programs only available to those with bail at or under 150K

Rot in prison. You don’t bring a gun to a fist fight. Now you have the rest of your life to think about how much of a pussy you are.

Catchy, but misleading, headline and thread title.

Dude isn't getting out.

Like what? Serious question.

Less serious question: What was the bail set for his parents for the crime of naming him Dyteon?

This one sheds a little more light on this:

Warning - Advocate article

quote:

Simpson, who has an infant son, has said his family needs him. Margaret Lagattuta, one of Simpson’s court-appointed attorneys, said the bail reduction will allow him to take part in parenting, spiritual and other programs at the prison.

quote:

What Johnson did Monday with Simpson’s bail is not unprecedented. Several years ago, one of his former 19th Judicial District Court colleagues — Tony Marabella — slashed from $400,000 to $149,000 the bail of a Walker woman accused in the 2015 slaying of her convicted molester. Marabella did so to allow her to get medical treatment and to take advantage of certain Parish Prison programs not available to someone with such a high bail.

The woman, Brittany Monk, was 17 and seven months pregnant with her boyfriend’s child when Robert Noce Jr. was found strangled, stabbed and stuffed inside a 55-gallon container in his Zachary trailer. Monk eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Her boyfriend, Jace Crehan, 25, is serving a life sentence on a second-degree murder conviction.

He pleaded not guilty to 2nd degree murder? I guess the tape evidence of him pulling out a gun and shooting him point blank is too fuzzy? WTF?

Hope dude rots under the prison. Don’t expect sympathy, he had the chance to put the gun down and back away without harm but he pulled the trigger, and pulled it on a great young man at that.

I bet Sims' family need him too. Too bad they don't get to make that argument to the court.
