Every play I’ve seen him make in camp is with his hands away from his body. He has strong hands and doesn’t use his body to secure the ball. For punts you almost have to catch the ball with your body and I think that’s where the problem come into play. Long story short let’s just put him at receiver

He tried to catch punts with his elbows pointed out instead of his elbows close together. It’s a simple technique fix if he remains the returner. The elbows together makes it easier to cradle.

This technique is taught in middle school football. Malik obviously forgot it last night.
He will get better.

Earlier it was mentioned that the lights in the Superdome may have affected him in picking up the ball. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here.

NO this is the opposite. You want to catch the ball with your hands. If you use your pads and don't time it up perfectly(hands and pads cradling together), it will bounce off your pads and you most certainly will not catch it. The dude had the right technique but just missed it.

This is a sensible post. Bech would be a good player to have as punt returner.

Nabers is a tremendous pass receiver and can get yards after the catch.

Don’t worry. Malik will never drop another punt again.

The two punts he muffed were end-over-end. I know that screwed Malik up and I’m sure we don’t have a punter doing that in practice. I absolutely knew he was going to muff the second one after I saw the first one. It isn’t as easy to catch a ball like that with people around you as it is on a kickoff with nobody around

If it's not Nabers, it'll be Sage Ryan
