You can't lead with the crown of your helmet regardless of the ball carriers status. Illegal hit.

And if you don't consider that leading with the crown, then there should be a flag for helmet to helmet contact. Illegal hit no matter how you dice it.

I can't believe anyone would defend that hit. That's as brutal as it gets.

It's unfortunate but not super malicious.

Ya, you don't know the rules but that's ok.

These NFL guys trying to make rosters are going to hit you like a freight train. I don't think Dupre is ready for that type of physical play just yet. Should've stayed one more year.

I don't think anyone regardless of their time spent in the NFL is ready for that type of illegal hit which is why the NFL has deemed them illegal.

He established himself as a runner, it wasn't illegal.

Not sure, I only saw a clip of the hit. Dupre lowered his shoulders to take the hit instead of attempting to get around it like most.

Damn that sucks. I have always been worried about dupre taking hits like that because he's just so light and skinny and seems kinda fragile. Dupre really could have used another year in college to develop his game and mature physically and mentally. He got horrible advice concerning the draft from some idiot. I pray he is ok. Geaux tigers.

Here is the rule that was passed in 2013

quote:

NEW RULE: A ban on a ball carrier initiating contact with the crown of his helmet in the open field or by a defender while making a tackle.

What the rule changes: A 15-yard penalty will be called if a runner or a tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players clearly are outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle-to-tackle and from 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team's end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or a tackler against an opponent would not be deemed a foul.
