Saban could play the game straight up and either win or lose cleanly and preserve the sport. God knows he has enough Roster strength. But he knew Watson was going to outplay Hurts. Kiffen's ouster was a bonehead move. And he knew their Pace of Play was going to wear down that Defense if he did not try to slow Clemson down. He did not play the game fairly and he GOT WHAT HE DESERVED.

Targeting doesn't just mean helmet to helmet

quote:

And if this is the game we’re going to hope remains with us three decades from now, we’re going to have to let it evolve. "When in question, it is a foul," the rule says. We have to err on the side of player safety, and if that requires rules even more game-changing than targeting (it surely does), then so be it.

On a recent Real Sports they showed that almost 100% of NFL players had Cumulative Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and 85% of High School Players.

Slow Motion: 2nd "Targeting hit by Reuben Foster" using only his helmet to hit Watson in the Facemask. This only shows at slow motion.

It was 17-14 ALA

Clemson was doing all it could to get back into the College Football Playoff championship game against Alabama on Monday night when Deshaun Watson got a first-hand reminder just how punishing the Tide defense can be.

Watson was scrambling on a 3rd-and-15 late in the third quarter and appeared to have daylight for a first down, but then Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster lined him up and sent him spinning through the air:

The biggest hit of the game? https://t.co/FtoLsCZNYR

That’s about a 540-degree spin off a hard shot to the chin. Ouch.

To add insult to injury, Watson landed shy of the first down marker and the Tigers had to punt. Alabama scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to go up 24-14.

Watson got the last laugh though. He and the Tigers scored 21 points in the fourth quarter — including a touchdown with one second to go to — to stun Alabama, 35-31, and win the national title.

On a defenseless player its not. Dupre was def not defenseless during that hit. That was a legal hit.

May 2017: NFL officials just OK’d a rule that brings the NCAA’s ‘targeting’ calls to the big leagues.

Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet.

I was traumatized by watching that and could always use a few extra Xanax
