This is a bill searching for some sort of problem that doesn’t exist.
What is the motive and the reasoning for this bill? I can’t think of one positive benefit of this.
I can name two: building a case for his re-election, and building a case for his possible run for a higher office.

I think this has something to do with the Last-Tear Poa situation.
Highly doubt these morons know who Poa is or anything about her situation. More likely just everyday jingoism.

The SEC has f ucked it up enough as is with NIL!!

You have to take on issues that your constituents care about in order to achieve either and this site is full of his target audience and yet we HATE everything he does.

This is stupid. Aside of mostly football, you have international athletes in every sport. International athletes get spots on elite rosters because they have elite talent. Don't cap that because some Karen wants her son or daughter to be given something they didn't earn.
I’m okay with capping international athletes for every public university except LSU… it offends me to see UNO’s rosters, for example, filled with international athletes when talented Louisiana kids didn’t get offered. Only LSU competes at a level that would justify leaving off American kids

Just put a tariff on international athletes

I think this is a dumb law outside of allowing any student regardless of nationality to earn NIL.
You realize by law they cannot earn money outside of a student job by federal law so they are shite out of luck if a foreigner wants NIL.
Kids here as foreign students are all held to the same standard. Athletes should not get a benefit others do not.
Posted on 6/9/25 at 5:23 pm to Locoguan0
Our Louisiana tax payer dollars are being spent to fund the education of a foreign student for sports that aren’t even profitable. Bill actually makes a lot of sense unless all you care about is winning. But for a Louisiana athlete or US athlete to be passed over should have limits. He set the limit at 25%. Don’t have any problem with it.

Will the House Settlement rev shares count as “student jobs”?

Also, if it is 25% of all athletic scholarships, it’s not that unreasonable. I don’t think even LSU has those type of numbers overall with Football and baseball taking 90+% American being my guess.
In the end, people are whining about something that is not that unseasonable if done correctly.

You seriously think other programs won’t use this against LSU on the recruiting trail?
Sometimes I forget how third world Louisiana is until I listen to half this board. Unbelievable.
If you don’t understand the implications this has for one of the few things that actually function at a national level (LSU) then I have no idea what to tell you.

I really wish Louisiana politicians regardless of political association would stay the frick away from college athletics. They are all absolutely retarded.

Well Huey P Landry and all the other circus clowns at the capitol are stupid, so no one should be surprised.

How so? There is currently a 17 million dollar endowment from TAF to fund athletic scholarships. And as far as I know, no taxpayer money is spent on facilities.

If you don’t understand federal law then I do not know how to help you. International students here on a j visa cannot work outside of a campus job. That means earning NIL is illegal and against the permissible nature of their visas.
The state is clarifying the NIL to be in line with federal law.
Now, bitching about the 25% quota on international athletes, do you even know the number of international athletes on scholarship at LSU? It likely is way less than 25%.
Again, read my statement, if they do this correctly, it should be fine without issues. If it is by sport rather than overall scholarship numbers, then that is different, but in the end, still is reasonable to expect from a public school.
People bitching that rules will get I. The way of our competitiveness with other programs are as big of a reason college sports has gone to shite as selfish ADs, coaches and athletes.

It’s 25% PER ROSTER
So it’s a 25% limit for each individual team.
Tennis, swimming, golf, track. You might as well just nuke them at lsu with this dumbass bill
