Mainieri / Corbin (thru '20 unless otherwise noted)
SEC Seasons: 14 / 18
Overall Winning Pct: .698 / .677
SEC Winning Pct: .598 / .581
SEC Titles: 4 / 4
SEC Tournament Titles: 6 / 2
Regional Appearances: 11 / 15
Super Regional Appearances: 8 / 9
CWS Appearances: 5 / 4
CWS Runner-up: 1 / 1
CWS Champs: 1 / 2
Head-to-head Games: 10 / 20 (Includes '21)

Their tenures are comparable.

Some takeaways:
- Corbin has been at Vandy since '03. CPM at LSU since '07.
- CPM has a better SEC winning %.
- CPM has done a better job getting to Omaha. Corbin better when he gets there.
- Corbin owns CPM head-to-head by 2:1. Ouch!
- If only their first 14 seasons are included, CPM looks a little better than Corbin.

I went thru all this in haste. If someone feels I've erred, let me know and I'll correct.

They’ve had very comparable careers, but what matters is what they are right now. Right now, Mainieri isn’t what Corbin is

Losing the series to MSU and getting swept by Tennessee is more telling than getting swept by Vanderbilt.

I polled 299 ADs, 100% would pick Corbin over CPM.

Vanderbilt history before Corbin

OMAHA TRIPS: zero

TOURNAMENT TRIPS: 3

Titles: 0

LSU before CPM

OMAHA TRIPS: 13

Tournament trips: 21

Titles: 5

The fact they are comparable makes CPM look like smelly dried up dog shite on the bottom of a ruined work boot

Agree

Their current trajectories are vastly different.

Corbin inherited nothing and has built the new gold standard

Their tenures are not remotely comparable

PM is historically one of the best coaches in CBB. However, it’s probably time for some new blood and new energy.

The expectations at LSU and the number of people engaged in the performance of the baseball program and the overall exposure of the baseball program is just different at LSU and on another level, even relative to SEC powers like Vandy and Florida.

LSU baseball is the standard all other college baseball programs strive to be. And there’s really no question that standard has slipped over the last couple years.

Manieri has a huge advantage over Corbin -- it's called TOPS.

Not sure how the per-histories matter. They've both been at their respective schools long enough to compare them on their own accomplishments.

I thought Vandy being a private school had some inherent recruiting advantages as well.

Can we compare just the last 4 years?

Vanderbilt baseball pre Corbin was the same as Kentucky football

LSU baseball pre CPM was alabama football

So if after 15 years a UK football coach and Bama football coach had close to the same success(with the UK coach being slightly better) you would view them as equivalent?

Good post. Mainieri has had a hall of fame career. But the program needs new blood at this time, and a coach hungry to establish himself as a hall of fame type coach.

Except you aren't taking into account that pauls future is looking like shite and corbin's seems to be looking up. He's getting better and Paul is getting worse.

Sure.

You wanna look at the last 4 full-seasons (2016-2019)?

I don't mind data-mining when I have time but I'll have to draw a line somewhere.

Two different species and I think you're overlooking that Smoke had 5 seasons between Skip and CPM and Corbin has been at Vandy 4 years longer than CPM here.

Why do you think no one has dominated college baseball in the last 20 seasons?
