Since Paul handled it wrong, how would you have answered the question? He told the truth.

Its not a PC world no matter what the snowflakes believe.

He’s not wrong.

But he knew Hess was the better option and wanted to go but Coach wouldn’t let him.

What does pc have to do with not being an emotional dickhead?

pitching, Pitching, PITCHING! This is what is consistently costing up a top season and a national seed.

My hope is that we can stabilize our staff and get the most out of them soon. If we do that, we can be a very formidable team. We already have 16 Quadrant One wins.

really wasn't that bad, he answered the question, described the scenario and summed it up(the scenario,) as having cost us the game, didn't interpret it as him saying "Fontenot cost us the game," even if he did, so what? this isn't travel ball, almost business at this stage

I just don’t see why it’s so bad to call out the coach for being an emotional pussy in his postgame interviews after a loss

Some in here seem to be completely fine for a millionaire coach to call out his college players by name in the media, but the coach should be above reproach on an anonymous message board. It’s strange

I’m convinced Russian thinks CPM reads this board and thinks he will give him first dibs on the buffet at the coaches meetings

I’m actually pro CPM, and don’t want him fired. But his postgame emotional depression and finger pointing is a negative

Sure, two national titles is obviously awesome, but they are and have been a train wreck ever since Tanner retired, and that wasn't exactly yesterday.

SC championships are more recent than the one Maineri won

Thank you for this. At some point players have to preform and be held accountable. Skip threw guys under the bus constantly. Fontenot is a good pitcher but he got tattooed yesterday and it cost us the game. Nothing wrong with Maineri saying this.

a friend that pitched for Skip gave up a bomb in a game late in the season, Skip goes out to get him, "God damn it, (friend's name,) I'm trying to get to Omaha and you sure as frick ain't helping me, why in the hell would you throw that pitch in that situation?" catcher piped in, uh, you called that pitch Skip

That's a nice story, but it's not really an example of throwing a kid under the bus.

So what? He said the pitching was terrible - it was!

We gave up 19 runs, get a grip. Press conferences aren’t that important. The team responded even after most of the fans left and espn gave up on us. Yet ‘fans’ are focusing on press conferences and the coach instead of watching the games.

Walking the lead off batter and then allowing 4 runs as a closer isn’t going to beat anybody. How is that throwing someone under the bus? The game was right there to win in the 10th.

didn't mean for it to be, but as I said earlier, at this stage, this is pretty much business, who gives a shite if he does or doesn't? we are in a day and age of having to point fingers and assign blame, just sports discussion board fodder, nothing to see here

ETA: and I can all but guarantee the "kids" hear much worse from him on a daily basis

Are you faulting CPM for not putting Hess in the game yesterday?

No people just think it’s dumb to advocate him losing his job. Big difference. There are plenty of times where these same people call out Mainieri on mistakes they think he’s made during games. Mainieri takes plenty of heat from the fans.

”I haven’t had my competitive edge in my last few games, and I’ve got to dig deep to find that again,” a clearly dejected Fontenot said.
“I know I have it, but I haven’t been showing it my last couple games.”

The reliever continued: “My job is to come in and throw strikes. If I’m going to come in and walk the leadoff hitter, it doesn’t give us a chance to be successful …
You’ve got to go in there and put your cleat on their throat, and I didn’t do that today.”

Sounds like Fontenot took responsibility IMO
